Soares Breaks Two School Records; BU Finishes Fourth at Terrier Invitational

BOSTON - Hosting the 15th edition of the Terrier Invitational, Carly Soares made history for the Boston University women's swimming & diving team, breaking a pair of school records as BU finished fourth overall among a six-team field.
Soares shattered the 400 IM (4:15.55) and the 200 breast (2:15.05) records while playing a hand in 168 points for the Terriers over the weekend.
Boston College won the meet with 997 points. Northeastern (759), Georgetown (708.5) and BU (634.5) followed close behind, and UMass (461) and New Hampshire (289) rounded out the field.
Soares started the individual events off by winning the 500 free (4:53.40), while Sydney Lee also had a strong showing (4:57.14) for a fourth-place finish. Isabella Garbacz posted the top finish in the 200 IM (2:06.21), taking fourth, and Kara Lydzinksi finished seventh in the 50 free (23.75). The 400 free medley relay team of Marie Alameida, Soares, Lydzinski and Lee capped the opening day by clocking in (3:47.84) third place.
Soares started the second day of individual events with a historic performance, breaking the school record in the 400 IM to reach the podium once again with a second-place finish.
Lydzinski and Lee also reached the podium, as Lydzinski took third in the 100 fly (55.87), and Lee tabbed a second-place finish in the 200 free (1:49.18).
Alameida posted the top finish for the Terriers in the 100 back (56.95), finishing fourth, and the 800 free relay squad of Lee, Garbacz, Francesca Leung and Soares ticked in a second-place finish (7:28.31) to close out the day.
Once again, Soares clocked a winning time in the 1650 free (16:53.86) to open the third and final day at Competition Pool. Lee started her day with a third-place finish in the 200 back (2:01.74) before notching a second-place finish in the 100 free (50.84), Leung posted her best individual finish in the 100 free as well, tying for third (51.23) overall.
On the diving boards, Katherine Russack placed third in both the three-meter (260.35) and one-meter (251.65) events.
The 400 free relay team of Leung, Lydzinski, Garbacz, and Lee close out the meet with a second-place finish (3:23.59).
BU will pick up its season during the spring semester, hosting Colgate for Senior Day on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 5 p.m.
