Terriers Volunteer at Salvation Army on Saturday
November 25, 2019 | Student-Athlete Academic Support Service
More than 30 Boston University student-athletes and staff volunteered at the Salvation Army's Thanksgiving meal distribution in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood on Saturday.
The Terriers arrived at the Salvation Army's Dudley Street location at 10 a.m. and got to work on an assembly line in a room filled with groceries. The volunteers packed hundreds of bags with frozen turkeys, potatoes, carrots, onions, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, and pie.
By 1 p.m., a line of families formed outside the The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center. The families were escorted inside and greeted by BU student-athletes and given a bag of groceries along with a roasting pan and a frozen turkey. By 3:30 p.m., 400 hundred Thanksgiving dinners were given out along with countless amounts of goodwill.
"It was a fun and rewarding experience to be able to help families in need during the Thanksgiving season with the Salvation Army," said junior Logan Broedner of the men's track & field team. "It is always great to get out into the Boston community and volunteer, especially during the holidays"
