
Terriers Take 54-43 Setback at Army

West Point, N.Y. – The Boston University women's basketball team could not find its shooting stroke as it dropped its first game of the season, 54-43, to Army Sunday afternoon at Christl Arena.
BU finished with a 27.1 (16-of-59) shooting percentage, while the Black Knights did not fare much better with a 37.8 (17-of-45) percent shooting clip.
Sydney Johnson and Katie Nelson led the Terriers with nine points apiece, while Riley Childs grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

How It Happened
- The duo of Johnson and Nelson combined for the first 10 points, scoring eight of those off turnovers, to give the Terriers a 10-5 advantage with 4:03 left in the first.
- Army used a 7-0 run to take control until Maggie Pina knocked down a transition 3-pointer to put BU back in front, 13-12, at the end of the first.
- BU went cold from the floor, connecting on 1-of-13 attempts in the second quarter as the Black Knights took a 25-19 command at the half.
- Johnson put in BU's lone two baskets in the third as Army extended its hold, 38-23.
- Down by 16 points, Pina connected from deep before Emily Esposito additionally stroked it from beyond-the-arc, cutting the deficit to single digits, 41-33.
- Nelson came up with a steal on the defensive end and went for the coast-to-coast finish, sealing a 10-0 run to put the Terriers within six with 3:58 remaining.
- The six-point margin would be as close as BU would get as its five-game win streak against the Black Knights ended.
- Chiara Tibbitt set a career high for the second straight game with eight boards.
- Sophie Beneventine made her first appearance as a Terrier.
- BU remains at the top of the Patriot League North Division standings at 5-1, and is the only team in the division with one loss.
- The Terriers are next scheduled to host Holy Cross on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m.
