BU Concludes Season at NCAA Northeast Regional
November 12, 2021 | Men's Cross Country
BOSTON - The Boston University men's cross country team concluded its 2021 campaign on Friday at the NCAA Northeast Regional, which was hosted at Franklin Park.
BU finished 12th in the 35-team field with a score of 392 for its best finish at an NCAA regional since a sixth-place performance in 2017. The Terriers bested fellow Patriot League squads Holy Cross (33rd) and Colgate (34th). Syracuse won the event with 51 points.
"I thought both programs ran their best team races of the season today," associate head cross country coach Jordan Carpenter said. "We set some ambitious goals for the race and both squads rose to meet the challenge presented to them. We return much of both regional squads so we really see this as just a preview of what is to come for our programs. Next, we will turn our focus to the track and build off a really strong finish to the cross country season."
All five Terrier scorers placed in the top 100. Sophomore Matt Mason closed his sensational sophomore season by leading the Terriers in 46th place with a time of 31:43.
"Matt had a strong race in his 10K debut," Carpenter said. "He had a fall early in the race, but was able to remain composed and fight his way back towards the front of the field to help us earn our best team finish at a regional since 2017."
Junior Kevin Murphy finished 76th with a time of 32:20, followed by classmates Mike Hagen and Foster Malleck, who both crossed the line in 32:32 to finish 89th and 90th, respectively. Senior Marcel Aubry was 95th with a time of 32:39, followed by sophomores Robert Hannon (33:23) and Alex Brown (34:06).
BU finished the fall with three top-10 finishes and five top-12 performances across six meets this season. The Terriers also boasted three First Team All-Patriot League selections in Aubry, Mason and Murphy.
The Terriers will now gear up for the indoor track & field season, which begins with the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 4 at the Track and Tennis Center.
