TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Riding a three-game win streak, the Boston University men's basketball team will conclude a season-high five-game road trip at ACC power Florida State on Wednesday night with the ACC Network broadcast slated for 7 p.m. Both teams won their respective Jacksonville Classic by Fabletics bracket championships on Monday at the UNF Arena.
The Terriers (4-2) claimed their first regular season trophy outside Massachusetts since 1996 by defeating both Northern Illinois (76-58) and Sam Houston State (72-59) in the Jax Bracket, while the Seminoles cruised to a pair of victories in the Duval Bracket against Loyola Marymount (73-45) and Missouri (81-58).
TERRIER TIDBITS
- Graduate student Javante McCoy was named his bracket's MVP by averaging 16.0 ppg and 5.0 apg to move to No. 11 all-time at BU with 1,417 career points. He shot a combined 6-for-9 from behind the arc and currently leads BU in scoring at 16.0 ppg while shooting 50.0 FG%.
- Senior Fletcher Tynen (5.8 ppg) posted 10+ points in back-to-back games for the first time in his career, as he averaged 12.0 ppg while shooting a near-perfect 11-fo-12 at the charity stripe.
- Senior Jonas Harper (7.7 ppg) was dynamite in 3-point territory in the two Jacksonville Classic games, shooting 7-of-11 en route to 11.5 ppg.
- Graduate student Sukhmail Mathon has hauled in 10+ rebounds three times this season to lead BU at 8.8 rpg while adding 9.7 ppg.
- Senior Walter Whyte (13.8 ppg, 6.4 rpg) missed the Sam Houston State game due to injury and just needs 23 more points to become the 40th Terrier to reach 1,000 points.
- The Terriers are averaging 69.7 ppg and 46.7 FG% while holding opponents to 61.3 ppg and 41.8 FG% with a +5.3 rebounding margin but do also own a negative turnover margin of 1.3.
- BU is seeking its first win against a Power 5 school since winning at South Carolina (78-70) in 2019 and its first win against the ACC since winning at Maryland (83-77) in 2013.
SCOUTING FLORIDA STATE
- FSU went 18-7 last season with a 12-1 home record and appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16 after ending the 2019-20 season at 26-5 with a top-five national ranking.
- Ranking as high as No. 19 this season, the Seminoles opened the season with a 105-70 win over Penn and then bounced back from a 71-55 defeat at Florida with a 59-54 win against Tulane.
- 6-foot-9 forward Malik Osborne leads FSU at 13.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 61.3 FG% and 69.2 3FG% while 6-foot-6 guard Anthony Polite averages 9.0 ppg and 6.8 rpg.
- FSU is averaging 74.6 ppg and 48.1 FG% while holding teams to 59.6 ppg and 36.5 FG%.
- The Seminoles are forcing 19.0 turnovers per game with the help of 11 steals.
