BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Riley Childs notched her second double-double of the season with 13 points on a career-best three three-pointers and 10 rebounds, but BU (2-5) could not overcome Northeastern's defense in a 53-45 setback on Wednesday afternoon at the Cabot Center.

Neither team shot better than 37 percent and the teams combined for just six three-pointers, but the Huskies (5-2) took the lead by holding BU scoreless over 8:03 between the second and third quarters. Northeastern led for all but 24 seconds in the second half.

Junior Sydney Johnson recorded 11 points and three assists in 37 minutes, while classmate Maren Durant added eight rebounds.

Northeastern's Kendall Currence paced all scorers with 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Donna Ntambue was the only other Husky in double figures with 11 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

BU raced out to a 9-2 lead in the first five minutes as Childs nailed a straightaway three to begin a 7-0 run over almost four minutes.
Northeastern cut the gap to 12-11 when Currence converted a fastbreak layup from a BU turnover, but Esposito countered with a midrange jumper from the charity stripe. The Terriers eventually closed the first up 14-13.
With 2:14 down in the second, junior Annabelle Larnard corralled an offensive rebound by the left block and floated a hook shot in.
Sophomore Sophie Beneventine then filtered through the Huskies' defense and received Johnson's pass for an uncontested layup to increase BU's edge to 20-13.
Northeastern didn't score until the 5:34 mark of the frame, but Izzy Larsen's second-chance layup ignited an 8-0 burst to give the home team a 21-20 advantage with 1:51 left until halftime.
That score stayed true at halftime, with Northeastern limiting BU without a point for the final 7:13 of the second.
Childs canned her third three-pointer 40 seconds into the third for the Terriers' first points in almost eight minutes, but two triples from Claudia Soriano and Donna Ntambue bookended an 8-2 Northeastern spurt to extend the home team's lead to 30-25.
Johnson swished a baseline jumper off an inbound to close the deficit to 32-29, but Currence notched her 12th point on a layup for a five-point Northeastern edge after three quarters.
Katie May boosted the Huskies' lead to the largest of the day at 38-32 after swiping an inbound and sinking a floater, coercing a Terrier timeout with 6:28 to play.
BU got within four on multiple occasions past the fourth's midway point, as Johnson hitt a floater and Esposito connected with Childs for an alley oop at the 4:05 mark, but the Huskies answered with buckets each time.
Junior Liz Shean drilled a corner three-pointer with 21.5 seconds to go to get BU within 49-45, but Northeastern iced the game with free throws.

GAME NOTES

BU shot 32 percent from the field, which included a 6-for-11 performance in the fourth quarter. Coming into the game fifth in the nation in three-point percentage, the Terriers were limited to just 4-of-22 shots from beyond the arc.
Northeastern shot 37 percent, and was just 2-for-14 from distance.
The Terriers won the rebounding battle for the fifth time this season, 29-27.
BU's bench reached double figures once again with 11 points, and have reached that plateau in every game this season.
The Huskies outscored the Terriers 30-18 in points in the paint.
Childs' 13 points are a season-high. Her trio of threes are the most she has made in game after hitting two in five instances, most recently against UMass Lowell on Nov. 9.
Shean is now 5-for-10 from three-point range this year, and has made four triples in her last three contests.
BU now leads the all-time series with Northeastern 41-38.
