BOSTON - Looking to stay alive in the Patriot League Tournament race, the Boston University women's lacrosse team fell to Army West Point, 15-8, Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field,
With the loss, BU (3-5, 2-2 PL) has been eliminated from postseason contention, while Army (4-3, 4-2 PL) has clinched the Patriot League North Division.
The Terriers overcame two three-goal deficits, coming within one early in the second half, but the Black Knights utilized a 5-0 run spanning over 15 minutes to put the game out of reach.
How It Happened
- Michelle Seger worked tight in front of the crease to get BU on the board in the first minute.
- Army answered with three straight goals before Jennifer Barry roped in a feed from Emily Vervlied to get the Terriers within one, 3-2, with 17:32 left in the half.
- The Black Knights won the ensuing draw and responded until Vervlied spun off a pair of defenders to make it a one-goal game once again.
- Kendall Sims kept the momentum going as she found the top corner on a free position shot, while the Berry-Vervlied connected worked inside once again, knotting the scoreboard at 5-5 with 8:54 to go until the break.
- Army took advantage of another 3-0 streak to pull ahead, 8-5, at the half.
- Vervlied and Kendall Sims each dodged from the top of the crease through the defense for solo strikes, cutting the gap to 8-7 with 27:40 to play.
- However, Army took the momentum of the game with a 5-0 run, pushing its command to 13-7 with 10:35 remaining.
- Makenzie Irvine snapped the scoreless streak with 7:42 left on the clock.
Game Notes
- Vervlied has led the Terriers in points in five of nine games.
- Additionally, Vervlied has produced at leas four points in all but two games, and has scored in every game.
- Jenny Feeney caused a game-high four turnovers.
