BOSTON – US Olympic gold medalist Emily Regan has been named an assistant coach of the Boston University men's rowing team, head coach Thomas Bohrer announced on Thursday.
Regan arrives at BU after spending nearly ten years as part of the United States National Rowing Team where she won gold in the women's eight at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and earned four World Rowing Championship titles.
"I am extremely excited that Emily will be joining the BU men's rowing staff," said Bohrer. "She has a wealth of rowing and training experience during her nine years as a US National Team member. Emily's rowing career started as a walk-on athlete at Michigan State. She has experience coaching at the junior level and has volunteered her time mentoring middle school students. She knows about work ethic, the value of goal setting, giving back, and that team culture always needs to be a top priority in any program. All of us are look forward to working with her."
In addition to her performance on the water, Regan aided US Rowing coaches during summer development camps to help prepare athletes to compete at the USRowing Summer National Championships. Regan recently served as seasonal assistant coach for the Ready Set Row Summer Development Team in Northfield, Mass. during the summer of 2021.
The Buffalo, NY native earned her BA in hospitality business from Michigan State in 2010 where she led the Spartans to three Big Ten Championships in the varsity eight and earned CRCA All-American honors in 2009 and 2010.
"I'd like to thank coach Bohrer for this awesome opportunity," said Regan. "I'm honored and excited to join the Boston University team. The rowing community in Boston is unparalleled and I'm really looking forward to being part of a program that aligns with my values. I hope to bring the lessons that I have learned as an elite athlete and coach to the team."
