Terriers Fall at UConn, 86-57

STORRS, Conn. – Playing on the road for the first time this season, the Boston University men's basketball team fell at Big East member UConn, 86-57, on Friday night.
The Huskies (2-0) entered the contest receiving votes in both national polls and shot 56.4 FG% while out-rebounding the Terriers (1-1), 41-29, to help post an 18-6 advantage in second-chance points.
Graduate student Walter Whyte led BU with 19 points, and junior Daman Tate had 11 points off the bench. Graduate student Fletcher Tynen contributed eight points, and senior Ethan Brittain-Watts earned a game-high three steals alongside six points and two assists.
UConn featured five Huskies in double figures, highlighted by preseason Big East Player of the Year and 6-foot-9 forward Adama Sanogo's game-high 27 points and 15 rebounds. 7-foot-2 forward Donovan Clingan contributed 10 points and seven boards in just 12 minutes, and Alex Karaban tallied 10 points with four assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU started the game 0-of-10 and quickly found itself down, 20-2, before Tynen hit a jumper at 10:25 and Brittain-Watts used his steal to find Whyte for the easy layup.
- Facing a 33-15 deficit with 3:47 left in the half, Whyte followed junior Anthony Morales' pair of free throws with a steal and layup as part of an 8-2 spurt capped by sophomore Malcolm Chimezie's steal and Tynen's jumper.
- Sanogo retook the momentum with a jumper and 3-pointer to enter the locker room ahead, 40-23.
- Nahiem Alleyne added another 3-pointer at 17:52 to extend the lead to 47-27 in the second half.
- The Terriers mounted one more rally with a 14-6 run that included 3-pointers from Tate at 14:32 and finally 13:09.
- UConn scored nine straight points over the next two minutes and later with a 68-49 advantage at 7:05 following Brittain-Watts' steal and layup went on a 15-4 run with Tristen Newton flushing a 3-pointer at 2:01.
- With the inclusion of Monday's 27-point performance against Northeastern, Whyte now ranks 17th all-time at BU with 1,284 points.
- Chimezie led BU in rebounds for the second time in his career with five total boards.
- After shooting 64.0 percent at the charity stripe in the first contest, BU went 19-of-24 (.792) against UConn.
- Freshman Nic Nobili saw his first action as a Terrier, collecting two rebounds.
- UConn improved to 45-12 all-time in the series by claiming its seventh consecutive victory with the Terriers last winning in 1986.
- Terriers will return home and next host Johnson & Wales on Monday (Nov. 14) at 7 p.m.
- Contest will mark the first ever between the two programs.
