Newman Adds Another Win on Final Day of Terrier Invitational

BOSTON - Freshman Haley Newman picked up her second win of the weekend to highlight the final day of competition for the Boston University women's swimming & diving team at the 2022 Terrier Invitational on Sunday at FitRec Competition Pool.
Newman touched the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly in a personal-best time of 2:00.81 to earn her second victory of the meet. She also led off a third-place 400-yard freestyle relay that finished in a time of 3:27.12 and also included sophomores Summer Brainin and Sasha Ramey along with junior Sydney Sorbello.
BU finished fourth in the six-team field with a total of 921 points.
Junior Lara Mitchell closed out a strong weekend with a time of 2:00.01 in the 200-yard backstroke, good for fifth.
Ramey took sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.58 and Brainin was four places behind in 10th at 52.62.
The finals kicked off with the 1650-yard freestyle where sophomore Ashley Scafetta took seventh (17:20.70) and junior Anastasia Belyakov was right behind in eighth (17:23.13).
Scafetta had the top time in the 200-yard breaststroke prelims at 2:17.31 but finished 10th in the finals (2:25.46) behind junior Ava Berzanski, who placed seventh in a time of 2:23.06.
Sorbello added an eighth-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.91.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3, when they host Holy Cross for a dual that will start at 1:30 p.m.
