WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Alex Giannaros tallied a team-high 15 points, and junior Maren Durant added a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double, but the Boston University women's basketball team dropped its regular season finale to Holy Cross, 59-48, on Wednesday evening at the Hart Center.

BU (16-13, 12-6 PL) won the rebounding advantage 38-31 and had 15 points off turnovers, but were held to 34.5 percent shooting and a season-low two assists. The Crusaders (20-9, 14-4 PL), meanwhile, drained 7-of-12 shots from three-point range to help secure the Patriot League regular season championship outright.

Junior Sydney Johnson added 13 points and three steals, while sophomore Caitlin Weimar snagged 12 rebounds.

Avery LaBarbera notched a game-high 24 points along with 11 rebounds. Bronagh Power-Cassidy added 13 points on three triples.

With American's win over Lafayette on Wednesday evening, the Terriers have secured the third seed in the 2022 Patriot League Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Giannaros scored five points in the first 2:03 of the game, converting a layup underneath the cup and drilling a three-pointer from the wing.
However, Holy Cross went on a 10-0 run over six minutes, and scored 15 of the final 18 points in the first to lead 15-8 after one quarter.
Junior Maggie Pina opened the second with a left-wing triple to pull BU within four, but Power-Cassidy drained two threes of her own, the latter extending the Crusader edge to 23-15 with 6:40 on the clock.
On consecutive possessions, Weimar put back two offensive rebounds to cut the gap to 28-23 with less than four minutes until halftime.
LaBarbera got open to knock down a floater just before the buzzer to give Holy Cross a 37-28 lead at the break.
Durant made a layup to open the third, then Johnson picked off a pass and hit a midrange jumper to close the gap to 37-32.
A 7-0 Crusader gave the home team its largest lead at the time, 44-32, but the Terriers countered with a 9-1 spurt, with Durant scoring six of the points to make it 45-41 with under a minute in the stanza.
Trailing by eight entering the fourth quarter, BU didn't score its first points in the frame until the 5:03 mark, when Johnson's jumper pulled the visitors within 52-43.
The Terriers scored five straight on Giannaros' three and Durant's jumper to make it 57-48 with 2:51 to play, but BU was shutout the rest of the way.

GAME NOTES

BU also had the edge in points in the paint (26-20) and second-chance points (15-12).
Forty-five of the Terriers' 48 points came from the starting lineup.
Giannaros tied a season-best with four three-pointers. She finishes the regular season second on the team with 10.2 points per game.
Johnson reached double figures in 17 of her 18 Patriot League appearances, registering 17.1 points per game against league opponents.
Durant closes the regular season with three double-doubles in her last five games, snagging 10 or more caroms in 13 games to this point.
Weimar averaged 11.3 points and 10.1 rebounds in Patriot League play. Wednesday marked the 10th time this season she led the team in rebounding, second only to Durant.
With its 12-6 league record, the Terriers matched its most PL wins in a single season, its ninth as a member.
BU has earned a top-three seed in the Patriot League Tournament in three-straight seasons, and a top-four in four.
