No. 12 Men's Rowing Concludes First Day at IRAs

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The No. 12 Boston University men's rowing team wrapped up the first day of competition with two boats advancing to the A-B semifinals at the IRA Championship on Lake Mercer.
All three Terrier boats took to the water two times Friday with the second varsity eight and third varsity eight crews winning their respective afternoon repechage races. The varsity eight boat nearly made it a sweep by posting the third fastest time out of 15 crews but was second in the fourth and final repechage race to reach Saturday's C-D semifinal.
The second varsity eight boat coxed by Matt Murphy and stroked by Harrison Steck missed out on directly advancing to the A-B semis with a fourth-place finish in the morning heat but came back later in the afternoon with a winning time of 5:45.644 to beat runner-up Northeastern by eight seconds.
The third varsity eight boat coxed by Peter Adams and stroked by Owen Loeb took third in its morning heat and later added the second first-place finish of the day with a repechage-winning time of 5:47.959 to beat Penn by three seconds.
In the first race of the morning, the varsity eight boat coxed by William Mulhall and stroked by Bowen de Gouw posted a time of 5:51.500 for third place and later took second in the afternoon at 5:36.604, missing out on an A-B semifinal berth by three seconds to Navy.
Saturday will start off with the 2V8 racing in its A-B semifinal at 9 a.m. with the 3V8 racing at 9:30 a.m. The V8 will end the day at 9:40 a.m. in its C-D semifinal.
