Four Podium Finishes Highlight First Day of Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Boston University track & field team had a successful first day at the Patriot League Indoor Championships on Saturday. Three individual Terriers and a relay team reached the podium and 24 Terriers advanced to the finals across 11 combined events.
 
The men's 4x800m relay was ran by freshman Parker Schneider, grad students Marcel Aubry and Aksel Laudon, and senior Foster Malleck. They ran a 7:30.41 to place second, marking the first time BU has medaled in the event at the Patriot League Indoor Championships. Not only that, but the time is second-fastest in school history.
 
In the women's long jump, sophomores Asia Hamilton and Emma Lawrence medaled. Hamilton placed second with a jump of 5.75m (18' 10.5") and Lawrence took third with a jump of 5.67m (18' 7.25"). 
 
Also reaching the podium was sophomore Daisy Liljegren. She ran a 5000m time of 16:49.92 to place third and lead the Terriers in the event. Notably, grad student Veronica Kriss placed fourth with a time of 16:59.12.
 
BU had top performances across multiple sprint events. In the 200m dash, senior Noelani Phillips set a meet record in the semifinals with a time of 24.10 which is also the fourth-fastest time in school history. Senior Emma Montoya (24.59) and freshman Jada Smith (24.76) also advanced to the finals. In the men's 200m dash, sophomore Dakota Jackson (21.49), freshman Logan Popelka (21.60), sophomores Leon Christian (21.79) and Matthew Spicer (21.95) all advanced to the finals.
 
The 60m dash saw three Terriers advance to the finals in Christian (6.83), Jackson (6.92) and Smith (7.63). Christian even set the seventh-best time in program history and came in first in the semifinals.
 
Montoya and Phillips went 1-2 in the 400m dash, running 54.99 and 55.61, respectively, to advance to the finals. Popelka (48.35) and freshman Liam Gair (49.40) also made the finals in the 400m event.
 
The women's 4x800m relay was run by grad student Madeline Bachmann, junior Isabela Shepard, freshman Olivia Dodds and grad student Meghan Convery. They ran a 9:15.13 which is the sixth-fastest time in school history and helped them place fourth.
 
Bachmann also competed in the women's mile. She placed sixth in the semis with a time of 5:03.83 to advance to the finals.
 
In the women's weight throw, freshman Ellie Roan highlighted the day with a Top-10 Terrier performance. She narrowly missed the podium, placing fourth with a throw of 16.53m (54' 2.75"). Juniors Emma Kowalski (16.35 (53' 7.75")) and Juliana Nakouzi (15.72 (51' 7.0")) also advanced to the finals.
 
Sophomore Jamie Chamberlain competed in the women's pentathlon. She scored 2983 points which is good for the eighth-best performance in program history. The men's heptathlon also competed in the first four events. Sophomore Steven Franco sits in second place with 2979 points and junior Stuart Bladon sits in third with 2804 points. Franco and Bladon will wrap up competition in the event on Sunday.
 
In the men's long jump, sophomore Ryan Rosenberger jumped a personal best 7.20m (23' 7.5"), good for fifth. His jump is also the ninth-best mark in program history.
 
After the first day, the BU women are in third and the men are in fourth. Navy and Army West Point are first and second on both sides. A full list of today's results can be found below. Those who qualified for the finals are designated with a "Q" after their time/distance. The Terriers will continue with the second day of the Patriot League Championships on Sunday (Feb. 26) starting at 11 a.m.
