Men’s Rowing Prepares For Busy Weekend Across Country
April 7, 2023 | Men's Rowing
BOSTON – The Boston University men's rowing program is set for two events on opposite coasts of the country this weekend, featuring the Pac-12 Challenge along with races against Harvard and Brown back on the Charles River.
BU's Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 make the trek to California to participate in the Pac-12 Challenge, hosted by Stanford from April 8-9 at Redwood Shores. The Terriers will race the Cardinal as well as Cal on Saturday (April 8), then compete against Wisconsin on Sunday (April 9).
Back in Boston, The 3V8 and 4V8 match up against the Crimson and Bears on Saturday (April 8), with the races set for 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., respectively.
In the latest IRCA/IRA Varsity 8 Polls, released on April 5, BU's V8 remained in 11th from the preseason national rankings. Cal is first in the country, while Wisconsin and Stanford are 12th and 13th, respectively.
The Terriers last competed against Northeastern on April 1. The No. 6 Huskies retained the Arlett Cup in the V8. BU earned wins in the 3V8 and 4V8. That marked the 4V8's second win of the spring, which came against Brown back on March 25.
BU participates in the Pac-12 Challenge for the second year in a row. In 2022, the Terriers, then No. 11 in the nation, bested No. 18 Oregon State, but fell to second- and third-ranked Washington and Cal, respectively.
Following the weekend races, BU is idle until April 29, when it treks to Lake Morey, Vt. to battle Dartmouth for the Bill Cup as well as Georgetown. The following day, the Terriers compete against Syracuse in a Conlan Cup clash.
