
Athletics Celebrates Best of BU at 2022-23 Scarlet & White Honors

Major Awards
Paul Lewis Student-Athlete Service Award
Megan Mastrorilli (Women's Rowing)
• Five-year captain of the women's rowing team, having exclusively rowed in the varsity 8 her entire career
• Named to the Scarlet Key Honor Society in recognition of significant accomplishments in academics, athletics, student activities, or service that has enriched the BU community
• Involved in campus organizations and activities, volunteer work, and other department committees as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee team representative, as well as a member of SAAC's Constitution Committee, Student-Athletes of Color, Mental Health & Wellness Group and the co-founder of the Terriers Together Mentorship program
• Other commitments to serving BU include time as a grader, course assistant and teaching assistant in the Computer Science department, progressing to planning and teaching four 30-student labs weekly
John B. Simpson Award (seniors who have demonstrated enthusiasm and leadership)
Domenick Fensore (Men's Ice Hockey)
• John B. Simpson Award winner for enthusiastic senior leadership
• Returned for his senior year to captain the men's ice hockey team to the 2023 Frozen Four after leading Terriers to Hockey East regular-season and tournament titles
• A Hockey East First Team All-Star Matched career high with 31 points thanks to 22 assists and a career-best nine goals
Caitlin Coker (Softball)
• Helped captain the softball team to a program-record 48 wins during the regular season and its first national ranking since 1996
• Named to the Scarlet Key Honor Society in recognition of significant accomplishments in academics, athletics, student activities, or service that has enriched the BU community
• A three-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree who was also named 2023 PL Defensive Player of the Year
E. Ray Speare Award (Top senior male scholar-athlete)
Roy Meyer (Men's Lacrosse)
• Fourth men's lacrosse player in five years to win E. Ray Speare Award
• Named to second straight Academic All-Patriot League Team in 2023 after earning 3.54 GPA in Questrom School of Business
• First Team All-Patriot League for second straight year
• Finished season with team-high 32 caused turnovers as well as 64 ground balls
Gretchen Schuyler Award (Top senior female scholar-athlete)
Emily Gant (Softball)
• Second consecutive softball player to earn the Gretchen Schuyler Award after claiming College Sports Communicators Academic All-America honors in 2022
• Graduate student with a 4.00 GPA in environmental health after earning bachelor's in health science with 3.90 GPA
• A four-time All-Patriot League honoree who is awaiting word on a potential fourth All-Region award
• Finished the regular season batting .340 with 37 runs scored, 36 RBIs and 13 stolen bases
Mildred Barnes Award (Top female athlete)
Kayla Roncin (Softball)
• Two-time Patriot League Player of the Year who claimed the conference's regular season triple crown with a .434 batting average, 51 RBIs and nine homers while adding 53 runs scored
• The 2022 All-Region First Team honoree helped the Terriers claim their fifth straight regular season title and first national ranking since 1996
• Will enter the PL tournament with 85 hits and 133 total bases, one shy each of breaking the PL record
• Roncin ranks third nationally in hits, sixth in total bases, 18th in batting average, 20th to strike out, 29th in RBIs and 42nd in runs per game
Caitlin Weimar (Women's Basketball)
• An All-ECAC First Team, First Team All-Patriot League, and Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honoree for the Patriot League regular season champion Terriers en route to earning the award as the top BU female athlete of the year
• Led the team with 15.1 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, and a .597 shooting percentage, the latter ranking 10th in the nation
• Became the second Terrier in program history to average a double-double on the season, and first since BU Athletic Hall of Fame member Debbie Miller-Palmore
• Also ranked 16th in the nation with 16 double-doubles, 23rd with 10 rebounds per game, and 24th with 7.2 rebounds per game
Mickey Cochrane Award (Top male athlete)
Lane Hutson (Men's Ice Hockey)
• A First Team All-American, Hutson was named Hockey East Rookie of the Year after becoming the first freshman in league history to lead Hockey East in conference scoring
• Recorded 48 points (15g, 33a), the most by a freshman defenseman in league history, en route to earning the Walter Brown Award as the top American-born player in New England
• Named Hockey East Tournament MVP after scoring overtime-winner in title game
• Top-10 finalist for Hobey Baker Award, given to the top player in college hockey
Woman of the Year
Rachel Borzymowski (Field Hockey)
• Became the first Terrier to be named the Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the second player in program history to be a three-time Academic All-Patriot League Team honoree
• Has a 3.94 GPA in biology with minors in psychology and visual arts
• Joined BU's genomic lab for their research trip in Costa Rica in summer 2022 at La Selva, working with and creating butterfly facsimiles in the rainforest
• A two-time All-Patriot League and all-region honoree, Borzymowski was the veteran leader of the team's defensive unit for the past two seasons
• Named to the Scarlet Key Honor Society in recognition of significant accomplishments in academics, athletics, student activities, or service that has enriched the BU community
Harry Agganis Terrier Pride Award (leadership, determination, citizenship, humility and teamwork)
Maggie Lohrer (Women's Lacrosse)
• Has been a leader on the team since her freshman year and continues to serve as a role model through her final year in grad school
• Battled back from a number of serious injuries to start 17 of 18 games in the 2023 season
• Completed an internship with The Petey Greene Program which provides free, high-quality tutoring for currently and formerly incarcerated learners
• She is quick to back up her teammates and other members of the athletics community and is widely regarded as "The Mayor of BU" for the friendships she shares with many across the department.
Walter Whyte (Men's Basketball)
• Has been a leader on the team and has served as a mentor for other students on campus through involvement with organizations such as Student-Athletes of Color
• Battled back from a season-ending injury suffered during the 2018-19 campaign to help the Terriers capture the 2020 Patriot League tournament title and later a first round victory at the 2022 College Basketball Invitational
• Finished his career fourth all-time at BU at 836 career rebounds, sixth in points (1,696) and tied-for-ninth in made 3-pointers (192)
• The four-time All-PL honoree recently earned a try out with the Boston Celtics and is set to graduate with a master's from the School of Public Health after earning a bachelor's in sociology.
