No. 11 Men's Rowing Opens Competition at IRA Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The Boston University men's rowing team opened competition at the 2023 IRA Championships on Lake Mercer on Friday with four boats taking part in the national regatta.
The Varsity 8 boat opened with a fourth-place showing in its heat, finishing in 5:53.018 with Princeton, Harvard and Wisconsin taking the top three spots. The finish pushed the boat to the afternoon repechage, where it was edged by Stanford by just over seconds (5:56.050 - 5:58.314).
The V8 moves on to the C/D semifinal on Saturday where it will compete against Wisconsin, UC San Diego, La Salle, Santa Clara and MIT.
The Second Varsity 8 boat finished third of six in its morning heat, finishing in 5:54.444, 10.284 seconds behind first-place Harvard. In the afternoon repechage, the 2V8 rebounded with a first-place finish, topping Navy by over six seconds with a time of 6:05.374 to advance to the A/B semifinal round on Saturday.
Later in the morning, the Third Varsity 8 placed fourth in its opening race behind Cal, Brown and Penn. The Terriers turned in a time of 6:03.936 and were about to race in their afternoon repechage when the remainder of the day's slate was postponed due to weather.
BU also had an entry in the Varsity 4 and posted a 6:30.891 in the time trials. The Varsity 4 semifinals were also postponed.
