BOSTON - The Boston University women's swimming & diving team opened the 2024 portion of its schedule with a 185-115 home victory over MIT on Saturday afternoon at the FitRec Competition Poll.

Sophomore Haley Newman won two events and added a runner-up finish to pace the Terriers. Five others earned individual wins and BU swept the two relays (200 medley, 200 free).

Newman won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:02.51 before taking first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.11). Other winners were senior Anastasia Belyakov (1000 free, 10:30.34), senior Sumi Cameron (3-meter, 290.85), freshman Han Hoang (50 free, 23.10), senior Madison Kim (100 fly, 56.36) and senior Lara Mitchell (100 back, 54.35).

The 200-yard medley relay of Mitchell, senior Clarissa Hoyt, Kim and Hoang opened the meet with a first-place finish, timing in at 1:41.95. Sophomore Stella Langenbach, senior Sydney Sorbello, Kim and Hoang teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:34.66.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 4-1 on the season. They will return to action next Saturday (Jan. 20) when they visit Colgate for a Patriot League dual.
