WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior Caitlin Weimar totaled an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double, and senior Kelsi Mingo provided 14 points, but the Boston University women's basketball team fell to Army West Point 61-57 on Wednesday evening at Christl Arena.

The Terriers (12-6, 4-3 PL) and Black Knights (7-10, 4-3 PL) entered the fourth quarter knotted at 42-42. However, Army made four of its final six shots from the field and 6-for-11 in the stanza to snap BU's eight-game winning streak in the rivalry.

Weimar made seven of her 10 shots while supplying three blocks. Eleven of Mingo's 14 points arrived in the first quarter. Junior Alex Giannaros collected 12 points and three steals.

Kya Smith paced all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while Trinity Hardy and Fiona Hastick each tallied 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Each team missed its first four shots in the game, but Weimar's and-one plus two more foul shots gave BU an early 5-2 lead, later pushing to 8-7 midway through the first on a Mingo three-pointer.
Mingo buried another three, and Giannaros stuck a midrange jumper off the inbound to level the score at 13-13 with three minutes left in the frame.
The senior nailed a triple just before the buzzer to pull BU within 22-18 after the opening 10 minutes.
Smith ignited the second with a conventional three-point play, but Giannaros' driving layup and two Weimar baskets brought BU within one, 25-24, over two-and-a-half minutes into the stanza.
Giannaros drew a double team to feed sophomore Anastasiia Semenova on the left block for a layup, then freshman Aoibhe Gormley's runner in the paint knotted the score at 30-30. Smith made an open layup with 18 seconds on the clock to give Army West Point the two-point halftime lead.
Two Giannaros baskets in the opening minutes of the third leveled the score before Ericson's three put the Black Knights back on top.
Weimar's second and-one play at the 5:06 mark tied it at 37-37, but Army responded with Smith's layup and Hastick's corner triple.
From there, however, BU's defense kept Army out of the rim for the final 3:50 of the third. Senior Sophie Beneventine laid in a second-chance bucket, and Giannaros' jumper by the foul line sent the game into the fourth quarter tied, 42-42.
Both sides traded four-point swings to start the period, then Weimar's turnaround layup on the left block restored the BU lead to 48-46 with 6:27 to play.
Army West Point took a 49-48 lead with 4:10 remaining when Camryn Tade drained a jumper. After a Terrier offensive foul, Smith converted a layup for a three-point Black Knights lead.
Beneventine drilled a left-wing three-pointer as the clock ticked under three minutes left to make it a 51-51 game, but Hastick connected on another corner three on the next play to put Army back in front.
Semenova found Weimar on the left block to bring BU within 56-63, and Ericson missed a three on the other end, but BU came up empty on its possession, and Smith went to the line to hit two free throws.
Trailing 58-55 after Weimar sank another shot off glass, Hastick canned a baseline jumper with 13.2 seconds left to seal the result. Mingo went on to make a driving layup on the next play to cap BU's scoring.

STATS

The Terriers made 44 percent of their shots, and 9-of-12 from the foul line.
Army West Point shot just under 35 percent from the field and just 5-of-20 from beyond the arc.
The Black Knights won the rebounding battle 45-28, including 21-4 on the offensive glass. Those turned into 13 second-chance points for the Black Knights.
BU had the edge in bench points (18-13), and points in the paint (32-28).
Beneventine, Gormley, and Semenova each finished with three assists.

NOTES

Weimar has secured a double-double in nine of her last 10 games, giving her 13 on the year and 37 as a Terrier.
Averaging a personal-best 6.1 points per game, Mingo has scored 109 points this year after scoring 93 in her first three seasons combined.
In 2023-24, Giannaros has recorded 10 games with multiple steals, and eight with three or more swipes.
BU falls to 3-3 this season in games decided by five or fewer points.
The all-time series now favors BU 18-11, with Army West Point capturing its first win over the Terriers since Jan. 17, 2021.
