Sjöberg Takes Second to Highlight Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Penn. — Junior Vera Sjöberg finished second in a field of 371 runners to lead the Boston University cross country team at the Paul Short Invitational Saturday morning. The women's side finished eighth out of 42 teams with a total of 316 points while the men took 28th of 44 teams, tallying 752 points.
Sjöberg kicked off her 2024 season with a 6K time of 19:56.2 to take second and improve her time by 34 seconds from the same race a season ago. Following Sjöberg was sophomore Ola Szulska, who placed 44th with a 20:59.4 time. Classmate Adrienne Buettner-Cable took 88th, crossing the line at 21:18.0, and the rounding out the scoring five were junior Sammy Seabury (92nd, 21:20.9) and freshman Caroline Collins (94th, 21:24.2).
Sjöberg was the only underclassman to place in the top ten of the Gold Race, with all nine other runners being seniors. She becomes the second BU runner in as many years to take second at the Paul Short Run, with Hannah Prosser finishing in the runner-up spot with a 19:59.1 time last year.
On the men's side, junior Moritz Ebbetskotte was the leader for the Terriers in the Gold Race, taking 87th with a 24:41.1 8K time. Senior Alex Brown followed with a 24:49.7 mark to take 110th. Junior Glenn Bell was the third Terrier to cross the finish line, placing 147th with a 25:04.3 time, and junior Charlie Tuttle and freshman Daniel Hruska took the other spots in the scoring five, with Tuttle finishing in 25:24.1 (197th) and Hruska in 25:55.9 (266th).
Next up, the BU cross country team will travel to Princeton as they will compete in the Princeton Fall Classic on Oct. 18.
