BOSTON -
Trevor Cote has joined the Boston University Department of Athletics as the director of clinical sports psychology & athlete wellness, as announced by director of athletics
Drew Marrochello and director of behavioral medicine Kara Cattani.
In this newly created position made possible through expanded collaboration with behavioral medicine and athletic training, Cote will provide oversight of mental health services to Boston University's student-athletes as a clinical sports psychologist while leading the department's wellness efforts.
Cote, who earned his doctorate in counseling psychology from Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development, was most recently at Providence College as the Friars' associate director of clinical sports psychology services and he has also worked at Holy Cross and USA Hockey.
"We are very fortunate to have Trevor join our department in this new role," said Marrochello. "Our partnership with the University's behavioral medicine unit continues to grow, and having someone dedicated to our student-athletes' overall well-being is a major step. We look forward to Trevor's experience and guidance as we enhance the holistic support for our teams."
"I am thrilled that Dr. Cote is joining our team of mental health professionals in Student Health Services," said Cattani. "As an experienced clinical sports psychologist, he has developed and led programming for student-athlete mental health and has extensive experience and knowledge of NCAA mental health best practices. He will provide important leadership as we expand our mental health and wellness programming for student-athletes."
Cote's most recent work at Holy Cross and Providence was focused on providing psychological care to student-athletes, teams, coaches and athletic support staff. An additional focus, priority and passion has been collaborating with senior staff within the respective athletic institutions on integrating psychological care as a tenet to creating an effective athletic system and culture.
"I am very grateful for the leadership in behavioral medicine and athletics collaborating to create this newly defined role and look forward to joining the many at Boston University currently involved in the care for student-athlete mental health and wellness," said Cote.
Cote is also co-owner of HIGHLANDS performance and psychological services, a private practice that specializes in general individual therapy, individual sport and performance psychological services, and consultation.
A member of the CCSPA (Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association) and the Association of Applied Sport Psychology, Cote received his bachelor's degree in psychology from Wheaton College. He earned a master's in sport & performance psychology from Denver before completing his PhD at BU.
