Maren Durant (SAR’23) Signs With Avides Hurricanes in Germany

December 20, 2024

ROTENBURG, Germany – Boston University women's basketball forward Maren Durant (SAR'23) has signed a professional contract overseas to play for BG 89 Avides Hurricanes, the organization announced later this week.

Durant will suit up in the 2025 calendar year for the Hurricanes after formally registering in Germany. The Hurricanes compete in the German 2 Bundesliga, the second-highest tier of professional basketball in Germany. Through 13 games, the Hurricanes are 5-8. Regis University graduate Sam Deem is the lone American listed on the roster.

A four-year letterwinner at BU, Durant closed her Terrier career tied atop the record books with a .561 field goal percentage. Her 172 career blocks trails only Debbie Miller '81 and Caitlin Weimar '24 on the all-time list, and she is fifth in the program annals with 832 rebounds.

During her tenure, Durant was the first Terrier ever to garner Patriot League All-Defensive Team honors three times, earning spots in 2020, 2022 and 2023. She was the inaugural recipient for the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

Following her time on Comm. Ave., Durant played one season as a graduate transfer at George Washington, where she led the Revolutionaries with a .486 field goal percentage. She went on to close her collegiate career with 869 points and 948 rebounds.
