Athletics Celebrates Best of BU at 2023-24 Scarlet & White Honors

Major Awards
Paul Lewis Student-Athlete Service Award
Sonja Dommen (Women's Cross Country and Track & Field)
• A member of SAAC and the Terriers Together Mentor Program who led the charge for BU's partnership with Newton Public Schools for its Pen Pal Program
• Worked with the Boston Public Schools for BU's annual Holiday Reading campaign
• Helped organize BU Athletics' National Girls & Women in Sports Day Clinic that taught sports to girls in the Boston area
• Partnered with SARP for its Sexual Violence Awareness programming on campus the past two years
• Helped BU organize its BCYF Camp this summer and assisted in encouraging student-athletes to sign up
John B. Simpson Award (seniors who have demonstrated enthusiasm and leadership)
Eitan Rosen (Men's Soccer)
• Served as a co-captain this past season, helping lead the Terriers to their first ever Patriot League tournament title and first conference championship since 2008
• Earned United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region First Team, Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and Patriot League Tournament MVP honors
• Appeared in all 20 games with 16 starts, totaling a team-high 22 points with two assists and 10 goals, the most by a Terrier since 2009
• Netted the game-winning goal in the 65th minute against Lafayette in the PL title game and later followed with an early strike in the NCAA opener at defending national champion Syracuse
Rayna Kuthiala (Women's Lightweight Rowing)
• First member of the women's lightweight rowing program to win the John B. Simpson Award
• Named team captain for the 2023-24 season
• Coxed the Varsity 4+ boat to a bronze medal at the 2023 IRA National Championship Regatta
• Earned 2023 IRA All-Academic and CRCA Scholar-Athlete recognition
• Represented the program and BU Rowing on Good Morning America in the summer of 2023
E. Ray Speare Award (Top senior male scholar-athlete)
Cade Webber (Men's Ice Hockey)
• Named Hockey East's Best Defensive Defenseman
• Set new single-season NCAA record with 133 blocked shots
• Recorded a career-high six assists, matched his career high with six points and was a career-best plus-15 this past season
• Graduated from Questrom School of Business in three years and is currently pursuing a master's degree in hospitality management
Gretchen Schuyler Award (Top senior female scholar-athlete)
Allison Boaz (Softball)
• Third consecutive softball player to earn the Gretchen Schuyler Award
• A two-time Patriot League Pitcher of the Year, NFCA All-Region First Team honoree, NFCA Scholar-Athlete and 2023 ECAC Pitcher of the Year
• Currently ranks No. 4 all-time at BU in victories (66), No. 5 in solo shutouts (24) and No. 7 in strikeouts (398)
• Graduated from the College of Engineering with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering (concentration in energy technologies and sustainability) and is currently pursuing a master's in mechanical engineering (concentration in thermofluid sciences and energy)
Mildred Barnes Award (Top female athlete)
Kayla Roncin (Softball)
• Two-time Patriot League Player of the Year and 2023 ECAC Player of the Year who currently ranks No. 2 nationally at 72 hits
• Became the third-ever Terrier and first BU infielder to earn All-America honors last June
• Currently ranks No. 2 all-time at BU in batting average (.409), tied-for-third in RBIs (134), No. 4 in hits (252) and No. 7 in doubles (35)
• Earned 2023 Academic All-Patriot League Team recognition and is tied for the PL record at seven Player of the Week awards
Caitlin Weimar (Women's Basketball)
• BU's first-ever Patriot League Player of the Year, two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year (2023, 2024), and ECAC Division I Player of the Year
• Also earned First Team All-Patriot League, Patriot League All-Defensive and All-Tournament Team, and All-ECAC First Team honors
• Led BU with 18.7 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game, becoming the only Division I student-athlete to average at least 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game
• Ranked top-20 in Division I in blocks per game (seventh), total blocks (eighth), defensive rebounds per game (eighth), double-doubles (13th), rebounds per game (15th), free throw attempts (17th), and total rebounds (20th)
• Finished her Terrier career 11th in program history with 1,277 points while also placing second with 178 career blocks and 9.8 rebounds per game and third with 15 points per game alongside a .551 field goal percentage
Mickey Cochrane Award (Top male athlete)
Macklin Celebrini (Men's Ice Hockey)
• Fourth Terrier and fourth freshman to win Hobey Baker Award as top player in Division I men's college hockey
• Totaled 64 points on 32 goals and 32 assists and was the only player in the country to collect 30 goals and 30 assists this season.
• Named a First Team All-American and National Rookie of the Year after becoming the fourth player since the turn of the century to record 30 goals and 30 assists as a freshman.
• Fourth man in Hockey East history to be named Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year in the same season
Woman of the Year
Sumi Cameron (Swimming & Diving)
• Two-time Women's Diver of the Meet at Patriot League Championships (2023, 2024) and the first Terrier to win the award twice
• Back-to-back Patriot League champion in 1-meter dive (2023, 2024)
• Three-time All-Patriot League honoree (2023 & 2024 First Team, 2022 Second Team)
• Business administration & management major in Questrom School of Business with a cumulative GPA of 3.80
• Co-president of SAAC
Harry Agganis Terrier Pride Award (leadership, determination, citizenship, humility and teamwork)
Lauren Keleher (Softball)
• Only the ninth BU student-athlete and second softball team member to earn the award since its inception in 2009
• A great leader, teammate, worker and scholar who brings joy to those around her
• Serving as co-captain this season, the lead-off batter currently ranks in the top 50 nationally for hits (66), batting average (28th - .426), doubles (38th - 14), on-base percentage (45th - .511) and runs per game (46th - 0.98)
• The two-time NFCA All-Region First Team honoree and 2021 Patriot League Rookie of the Year is also a 2023 NFCA Scholar Athlete who ranks third all-time at BU in walks (101), third in doubles (48) and eighth in hits (234)
• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in health science, as well as a double minor in business administration & management and innovation & entrepreneurship with an interest in the medical sales industry

Upset of the Year - Men's Lacrosse defeated No. 1 Army West Point for the program's first victory over the nation's top-ranked team
Highlight of the Year - Caitlin Weimar (Women's Basketball) hit the go-ahead and-1 in the final seconds to help BU erase 21-point deficit and defeat Holy Cross
Moment of the Year - Eitan Rosen (Men's Soccer) scored the Patriot League championship game's lone goal to help BU earn its first conference title since 2008
- Brian Maurer (COM'07) served as emcee for the evening while several student-athletes were presenters for the Athlete Choice Awards.
- Seniors Anna Dechantsreiter (Women's Rowing) and Griffin Roach (Men's Soccer) will be the recipients of the Aldo "Buff" Donelli Award for Leadership at the 2024 BU Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony, which will be held in the fall.
