Women’s Rowing Ready for 2024 Patriot League Championship on Friday
May 16, 2024 | Women's Rowing
BOSTON – In search of its third Patriot League title, the Boston University women's rowing program gears up for the 2024 Patriot League championship, taking place at Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill, N.J. on Friday (May 17).
The day begins with the morning heats, starting with the Varsity 4+ at 8:02 a.m. The top three crews from each heat will advance to their respective Grand Finals, beginning at 2 p.m. The rest move to the Petite Finals, which start at 1:30 p.m.
Both sessions will air on ESPN+, with the morning broadcast set to start at 7:55 a.m. The afternoon session will begin before the Varsity 4+ Petite Final at 1:25 p.m. Adam Giardino and Alex Vispoli will have the call.
The Terriers enter the championship as the No. 1 seed for all three crews among the nine-team field. BU searches for its second title in three years and first since 2022, which also took place on the Cooper River.
Last year, the Terriers were the Patriot League's runner-up after matching Navy with 51 team points. BU captured first place in the Varsity 4+ and Second Varsity 8+ Grand Finals, then earned second in the Varsity 8+ Grand Final to the Mids, who received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
BU's 2V8+ looks to secure its third Grand Final gold medal in a row, which would be a first for the program since joining the Patriot League in 2014. The Terrier V4+ won the Grand Final for the first time ever last season as it eyes to defend the title. The V8+ has finished in the top-three every season since 2016, last receiving gold in 2017.
The Terriers enter Friday following their time at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday (May 5). All five BU crews advanced to the Grand Finals, where the V4+, 2V8+, and V8+ all respectively placed fourth, sixth, and fifth.
Should BU capture the Patriot League championship and earn the conference's automatic bid, the 2024 NCAA Championships take place at East Fork/Harsha Lake in Bethel, Ohio from May 31-June 2. The NCAA Selection Show will air on NCAA.com at 5 p.m. on Tuesday (May 21).
