No. 4 Lightweight Rowing Prepares For IRA Championship
May 31, 2024 | Women's Lightweight Rowing
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The fourth-ranked Boston University lightweight rowing program is set to race three crews at the IRA National Championship Regatta. BU will compete at Lake Mercer over the weekend, starting on Saturday (June 1).
A live stream for the races will be available on Overnght.com, with both days free to stream. Results will be provided by RegattaTiming. More information about the regatta can be found using the link for the IRARowing website at the top of the article.
The Terriers begin racing on Saturday (June 1), where the Lightweight 2x competes in the first heat at 8:00 a.m. BU's Lightweight 4+ will race at 8:20 a.m. in the first heat. The top three crews from those heats advance to the Grand Final on Sunday (June 2).
BU's Lightweight 8+ races for its Grand Final lane assignment on Saturday (June 1) at 8:40 a.m., with the final race taking place on Sunday (June 2) at 10:20 a.m.
In the final IRA Lightweight Women's Poll, released on May 14, BU's Lightweight 8+ slotted fourth behind Princeton, Harvard-Radcliffe, and Stanford. BU's 4+ and 2x, however, were first in the nation, garnering six and eight first-place votes, respectively.
The Terriers seek to build off last year's runner-up performance at the IRA Championship. BU repeated its silver medal after finishing second behind the national champion Tigers with 57 points. The 4+ and 2x were third in their respective races, while the 8+ was fourth behind Princeton, Stanford, and Georgetown.
Since 2016, BU has placed second in every IRA Championship appearance where it entered three crews.
In its most recent race back on May 12, the Terriers posted two wins in the 2x and 4+ over No. 4 Stanford, with each crew finishing over 11 seconds ahead of the Cardinal. Stanford was victorious in the 8+ in 6:34.9, however.
Fifty crews across men's and women's lightweight and men's heavyweight schools will embark on Mercer Lake for the IRA National Championship Regatta, which celebrates its 121st anniversary this year. The Princeton National Rowing Association will also co-host the event.
