BOSTON – The Boston University men's rowing program ignited its 2025 spring racing schedule with three races against Brown on the Charles River on Saturday, March 22. The Bears were victorious in all three events.
Temperatures started as low as 35 degrees for the first race but climbed to 47 degrees by the end of the morning. However, wind gusts that reached as high as 21 miles per hour created a cross-headwind with choppy water closer near the starting line.
In the race for the Michalson Cup, the Terrier Varsity 8+, coxed by
Emily Slawin and stroked by
Jan Koska, crossed the finish line in 6:12.8. However, Brown began to pull ahead before the Mass. Ave. Bridge and won with a time of 6:06.2 to retain the Michalson Cup for the fifth-consecutive time.
BU's Second Varsity 8+, coxed by
James Smith and stroked by
Filippo de Marsanich, placed second in 6:25.3 as Brown gradually built a lead that led to a 6:13.5 result.
Saturday concluded with the Terriers' Third Varsity 8+, coxed by
Hannah Noguchi and stroked by
Hurst Thompson. Battling with two Brown crews, BU was second in 6:28.2, under five seconds behind the Brown 3V but ahead of the 4V by a similar margin.
The Terriers will regroup for its next cup race on the Charles River on Saturday, April 5, when crosstown foe Northeastern makes the trip upstream in an Arlett Cup tilt.
