EASTON, Pa. — The Boston University women's lacrosse team used four-goal efforts from junior
Elle Stevenson and sophomore
Izabella Amonte to earn its third straight win and top Lafayette for the first time since 2021, 17-8.
BU (7-3, 2-1 PL) got out to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, using a 7-2 fourth-quarter advantage to pull away from the Leopards (4-5, 0-2 PL).
The Terriers had three stretches of three-straight goals and only allowed the Leopards to score back-to-back goals once in the contest. In net, sophomore
Natalie Aiosa made nine saves, marking the third straight game with a save percentage over .500.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU opened the game with a tic-tac-toe passing play that ended in senior Hannah Tillier scoring off a pass from junior Leah Hodgins.
- Lafayette answered but the Terriers got a goal from Amonte to give them a lead that BU did not give up.
- Graduate student Kendall Sims was the next Terrier to find the back of the net, scoring with 9:49 to play in the first quarter.
- Goals from junior Jayne Feeney and Stevenson capped a 4-0 run to end the first quarter for BU with the Terriers up 5-1.
- Lafayette started the second quarter with two straight goals and the BU offense went quiet for the first 12 minutes of the frame.
- Amonte woke up the BU offense with two of her own goals within 31 seconds of each other. Both were off free positions and her effort gave the Terriers a 7-3 lead entering the half.
- Tillier kicked off the second half the same way she started the first — with a goal. She used a sidearm effort to go around her defender and give BU an 8-3 lead 2:20 into the half.
- The teams traded goals for the rest of the third quarter, as Lafayette scored with 8:51 left, then Sims took a pass from Tillier, spun around and fired it home for her second goal of the game at 7:53 in the third.
- At 6:52, the Leopards cut the lead to 9-5, but BU hit double digits with a free position goal from senior Avery Jones just over a minute later.
- Lafayette's leading scorer, Sophia Spallone, scored once more in the third and made it 10-6 BU entering the final quarter.
- Feeney scored the first of seven unassisted BU goals in the last quarter, potting it 1:36 into the frame.
- Lafayette scored at 10:54, but then the Terriers rattled off a barrage of four goals to put the game away. Stevenson got two tallies, including a woman-up goal, to make it 13-7 with 6:31 left in the game.
- Sims completed her hat trick with 5:22 left in the game, then Leah Hodgins put one away to make it 15-7 with 4:35 remaining.
- After a Lafayette goal, both Stevenson and Amonte each scored another goal to hit four on the day and cap off the Terriers' second Patriot League win.
NOTES
- BU outshot Lafayette 32-23 on the day and picked up 29 ground balls to the Leopards' 23.
- The Terriers tied their season-high in goals with 17. The last time they scored at least 17 goals in a Patriot League contest was in a 19-goal effort against American in April of 2023.
- Amonte's four goals set a new career high for her and increased her season total to 23. That mark is the best of a Terrier through the first 10 games of a season since 2021, when Emily Vervlied scored 27 in 10 games.
- Leah Hodgins was one of five Terriers to tally a three-point game, notching two goals and an assist. This is her third straight three-point game.
- Tillier finished with two goals and one assist, upping her career points total to 91.
- Sims' three goals are the most for her in a game since April 6, 2022, when she potted four goals against Merrimack.
- BU went 3-for-5 on free position shots and held the Leopards to just one free position goal on three attempts.
