Women’s Rowing Competes on Day One of NCAA Championships

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The Boston University women's rowing program competed twice on day one of the 2026 NCAA Championships in both the heats and semifinals. The Varsity 4+ led the semifinal performances for the Terriers as it made the C Final while the Varsity 8+ and the Second Varsity 8+ advanced to the D Final. The semifinals were moved up a day to account for inclement weather forecasted on Saturday.
In the morning, BU faced crews from 10 schools, nine of which were ranked in the top 20 nationally. The Varsity 8, coxed by sophomore Laura Leong and stroked by freshman Marta Carfagni, finished fifth in its heat with a time of 6:26.816 to advance to the C/D semifinals. In the semifinal, BU finished in 6:25.230 to take fourth. It will compete in the D Final on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The Second Varsity 8+ finished fifth in its heat with a time of 6:24.944, just a couple seats behind No. 20 Oregon State which crossed the line in 6:21.352. The boat, coxed by sophomore Sydney Caragher and stroked by sophomore Gigi Williams, went on to compete in the C/D semifinals in the afternoon. BU raced to a 6:24.944 in the semifinal, finishing fourth in its heat. It will race next in the D Final on Sunday at 8:36 a.m.
The Varsity 4+, coxed by senior Maya Wiisanen and stroked by freshman Louise Forrester, turned in a 7:21.300 to finish fifth in the heat. The crew also advanced to the C/D semifinals, in which it earned a dominant third place time of 7:20.507 to secure a spot in the C Final for the second year in a row.
