May 3, 2026 | Women's Rowing
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Boston University women's rowing team completed a competitive day of racing at the 2026 Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond. The Terriers raced five boats, three of which made Grand Finals and two making Petite Finals.
The Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ each had top two finishes in their heats to advance to the Grand Final. Notably, the Varsity 4+ finished first in its heat with a time of 7:15.150, the second-fastest time across all three heats. The Terriers finished in second in the 1V8 and 2V8 heats, just behind Brown and Harvard-Radcliffe, respectively. The Third Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 4+ were the two boats that qualified for the Petite Finals.
The Varsity 8+, coxed by sophomore Laura Leong and stroked by freshman Marta Carfagni, put together a strong race in the Grand Finals. The crew maintained a few seats on No. 12 Rutgers throughout the race and wasn't far off Harvard-Radcliffe in the adjacent lane as BU finished in 6:20.885, good for fifth.
The Second Varsity 8+ was closely contested. Each boat in the race was within a length of one another at the 500m mark with BU half a length behind the top two boats in the race. Coxed by sophomore Sydney Caragher and stroked by sophomore Gigi Williams, the crew battled with Northeastern in the last 250m and finished sixth with a time of 6:32.854.
The Varsity 4+ Grand Final saw BU in a battle with Dartmouth and Brown for much of the race. The crew, coxed by senior Maya Wiisanen and stroked by freshman Louise Forrester, finished in 7:27.081, good for sixth.
In the Second Varsity 4+ Petite Final, BU raced to a 7:34.788 to take first. The boat, coxed by senior Valeria Lizzaraga Ramirez and stroked by junior Ruthie Wix, led by two seats after the first 500m and gradually expanded its lead to take the win.
The Petite Final in the Third Varsity 8+ was closely contested. BU was a few seats behind eventual first-place Boston College before the Eagles pulled away. In the last 250m, BU and Brown went back and forth but Brown (7:02.219) finished narrowly ahead of BU (7:02.523). BU's crew was coxed by senior Alex Aravides and stroked by sophomore Elsa Marino.
BU will turn its attention to the Patriot League Championship which will take place on Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J., on Friday, May 15.
