Joe Terrasi went from being a First Team All-American high
school football player at Waltham High School to starring
for the Terriers in 1952, 1953 and 1954. He led the 1953 team
in rushing with 425 yards and a 5.7 yard-a-carry average as
the Terriers finished 5-3-1.
The following year he co-captained the Terriers who enjoyed
one of the finest seasons ever. They went 7-2 with two of
the big victories over Syracuse (41-19) and Villanova (28-6).
Their only losses were one-point decisions against Boston
College (7-6) and Holy Cross (14-13).
In 1951, Terrasi won the Outstanding Boston University Freshman
Award, but it was two years later when he enjoyed his most
successful season. That year, he scored 66 points to rank
10th in scoring among the major college football players and
was fifth in the nation with 18 points after touchdowns. His
play that year earned him All-New England recognition, an
award he won the following year. He also was the recipient
of the B'nai B'rith Award as the outstanding senior college
football player.
He ranks on the University's all-time list in career rushing
attempts (298), rushing (1287 yards) and in total plays (305).
