Women’s Soccer Falls to Northeastern In Season Opener, 1-0

BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer team (0-1-0) fell to Northeastern (1-0-0) in a 1-0 decision on Thursday evening at Nickerson Field.
After a tightly contested first half, Northeastern scored at the 8' mark to take a 1-0 lead which it never relinquished.
BU had nine shots compared to Northeastern's three but could not find the back of the net. The Huskies' goalkeeper Eliza Tuplow made nine saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ten minutes into the game, senior Ava Maguire had a strong opportunity to give BU its first goal of the year, but her high shot was saved by the Northeastern goalkeeper. Maguire tried a second shot, which went wide.
- Northeastern had a shot moments after that was saved by junior Bridget Carr.
- BU was awarded a free kick at the 14' mark, but the quality shot by Maguire was saved by Northeastern. A quick regroup from the Terriers gave BU another shot at goal, which was also saved by the Huskies.
- Northeastern was dealt a yellow card at the 29' mark.
- Sophomore Georgia Prouty took a strong shot at the Huskies' net, but the goalkeeper continued to deny BU, as the game headed into halftime with no score.
- Seven minutes into the second half, a yellow card was assessed to sophomore Nina Tzouganatos.
- Northeastern gained momentum after the call and found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead at the 52' mark.
- At the 67' mark, Northeastern was given a yellow card.
- Northeastern took a free kick just outside the goal box and the shot went just over the crossbar.
- Senior Samantha Aranson took a free kick from just outside the box at the 73' mark, but her attempt hit the crossbar and the score remained in BU's favor.
- BU worked its way past multiple Northeastern defenders for an opportunity at the net with just under five minutes to play, but the Huskies made the save.
- BU earned a corner kick at 87' but the attempt was cleared away by the Huskies.
- Northeastern kept the Terriers at bay through the final minutes as BU fell, 1-0.
