HOW IT HAPPENED
- McWhinney needed just 63 seconds to score, hovering around the top-left corner of the 18-yard box before whipping a right-footed boot into the lower-left corner for the 1-0 Army West Point advantage.
- BU nearly equalized in the 14th minute. Senior Maguire crossed a clean ball from the left corner to junior Olivia Avellar at the right post, but her header ricocheted off the iron.
- Junior Alli Powderly also met the woodwork five minutes later when Dail turned aside her 20-yard blast. On the ensuing corner, Avellar had another shot blocked before Ryan lifted a try over the bar.
- On BU's fourth corner of the night in the 27th minute, the insert bounced off senior Helene Tyburczy and off the left post. Sophomore Georgia Prouty collected for a shot that zipped right to Dail for the stop.
- Slott was also unlucky with the crossbar when her one-timer from six yards away pinballed off. Ryan then drilled another chance wide in the 37th minute.
- The senior attempted another shot 15 minutes into the second half from 20 yards out, but Dail came up with the save on one hop.
- The Black Knights applied pressure moments later when Megan Youngberg, fresh into the match, poked a 15-yard shot towards Carr, who made the stop. Carr also denied Leila Castell from central in the 66th minute.
- Army would not be denied in the 68th minute, however, as Woodward dished off to Conti atop the box. Conti turned and tucked home a left-footed strike for a 2-0 Black Knight lead.
- Ryan had three chances stymied in a span of 10 minutes, the final one on a 20-yard try that she collected from sophomore Averie Hoff. Dail lined up the chance for the snag.
- Seventeen of BU's 23 shots occurred in the first half.
- Officially, the Black Knights' defense blocked eight Terrier shots.
- Shots on goal also favored BU, 9-5.
- The Terriers set a season high with 12 corner kicks, their most in a game since 13 against American on Oct. 18, 2025.
- BU spent 41 percent of its total possession 25 yards out from the Black Knights' goal.
- Carr, Ryan, Powderly, senior Ciara Kennedy and sophomore Nina Tzouganatos all played the full 90 minutes.
- BU sustained its first shutout at home since the season opener on Aug. 14.
- Wednesday was the first Terrier shutout loss against a Patriot League foe since Oct. 11, 2023.
- The all-time series remains in the Terriers' favor at 12-5-2.
- BU returns to the road to face Lafayette on Sunday, Oct. 4. Opening kick is scheduled for 2 p.m.
