NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston University women's soccer program sustained a 4-0 loss to Boston College on Thursday afternoon at the Newton Campus Lacrosse & Soccer Field.

BU (2-5-1) could not overcome two first-half goals from the Eagles (7-0) in the opening 28 minutes of the match as the home side sported a 14-3 advantage in shots after 45 minutes.

Senior Kat Slott led the Terriers with four shots, three of which were on target. Sophomore goalkeeper Jill Humphreys made four saves.

Sophie Reale paced the Eagles with a goal and three assists. Addison Kalaw, Nicollette Kiorpes and Ashley Roberts also found the back of the net. Olivia Shippee and Faith Fenwick combined for seven saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Commanding possession early, Boston College struck first in the ninth minute after Roberts splits two markers and beat a right-footed shot against Humphreys, who managed to get a small piece of the shot.
Humphreys made her first save of the day in the 15th minute with a leaping attempt to send the ball into the crossbar on Reale's chance.
The Eagles extended their lead when Reale dished off to Kalaw inside the box. Kalaw evaded Humphreys, who burst out off the goal line and ran into another Terrier, and tucked home the right-footed shot near the left post.
BU generated consecutive corners in the 33rd minute but could not create a shot. Moments later, Slott whipped a left-footed strike right to Shippee.
Humphreys posted back-to-back, off-balance stops off a Boston College corner kick, including a poke with her glove to send away Amalia Dray's opportunity.
Senior Ava Maguire also sent a left-footed shot from atop the 18-yard box on target. Shippee jumped to send the ball over the woodwork in the 39th minute.
Out of halftime, the Terriers maintained a majority of possession, but Reale shook off the marker to enter the box with space and find the bottom-right corner of the goal to push the Eagles' edge to 3-0.
The Terriers immediately responded with a corner kick, where Slott headed the insert towards the net. However, Shippee skied for the save.
Boston College answered that chance with Kiorpes finding the back of the net just 49 seconds later for a 4-0 lead in the 54th minute.
In the 67th minute, sophomore Ariana Schwinn-Clanton approached the box with space down central, but her shot was blocked as it entered the 18-yard box.
Three minutes later, junior Alli Powderly chased down Annie Gnidula, who was all alone bursting towards the net, and blocked her shot. The Terrier defense held firm on two ensuing Eagle corners.
Maguire intercepted possession from Boston College and centered the ball for graduate student Gianna Savella. Her 20-yard blast in the 75th minute narrowly zipped wide left.

STATS

Boston College finished with a 21-13 advantage in shots, though BU outshot the Eagles 10-7 in the second half.
Shots on goal narrowly favored Boston College, 8-7.
The Eagles generated 10 corner kicks to the Terriers' four.
Humphreys, senior Ciara Kennedy and junior Maddie Green were the lone Terriers to play all 90 minutes.
