HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Ava Maguire rattled off the first shot of the match five minutes in with a touch on Avellar's right-corner cross, sending the ball wide near the left post.
- Maguire would connect two minutes later with Avellar, sending a pass from the left sideline to the junior on a run down the right slot, leading to the unmarked Terrier tucking her right-footed blast off the left post and in.
- In the 16th minute, Avellar tested Mejia with a 20-yard shot that the keeper could not handle. Maguire bolted into the penalty box to shoot the loose ball off the crossbar. However, Slott was there for the ricochet to send the ball into the nylon to extend the lead to 2-0.
- Sophomore Georgia Prouty nearly made it a three-goal game with a 20-yard shot that rang off the left post following her run down the left sideline.
- Bryant sliced its deficit in half in the 33rd minute when Carr punched out a service into the box. As she was down, Edelstein fired the chance into an open net.
- BU went into halftime up one after sophomore Ariana Schwinn-Clanton narrowly missed a shot from outside the box, floating the try just over the woodwork.
- Slott and Avellar continued to apply pressure in the second half, including when Slott's left-corner cross nearly found Avellar on a run to the back post in the 53rd minute, but Avellar could not connect on a shot.
- The junior then placed an 18-yard shot on target in the 70th minute, forcing Mejia to crouch for the save.
- Bryant's best chance in the second half came three minutes later when a free kick was volleyed into the box. The Terriers' clearing attempt then hit the outside of the right post.
- In the 84th minute, freshman Sam Ryan's shot was immediately blocked. Junior Maddie Green, who joined the rush from the back line, corralled the ball for a 25-yard blast that zipped narrowly wide right.
- With under two minutes remaining, senior Samantha Aronson operated down central and drilled a shot that Mejia dove to deny. The Bulldogs rallied for one final off-target shot, their first of the second half, in the waning seconds.
- BU notched 15 shots in the first half and 11 in the second half.
- Bryant finished with just one shot on goal.
- The Terriers generated 11 corner kicks to the Bulldogs' four.
- Neither side was assessed a yellow card.
- Six Terriers played the full 90 minutes: Green, defenders Averie Hoff and Alli Powderly, Nina Tzouganatos, Ciara Kennedy and goalkeeper Bridget Carr.
- In her last 23 appearances, Avellar has racked up 19 points on eight goals and three assists.
- Slott has scored in three of her last five games. She made her first-career start in the match.
- Maguire earned her first point of the season.
- Carr started the match, her first appearance since Aug. 20.
- BU improves to 3-0 all-time against Bryant.
- BU ignites Patriot League play at home against Navy on Saturday, Sept. 19. Opening kick from Nickerson Field is slated for 12 p.m.
