Boston University alumnus Alex Dillon returned to DeWolfe Boathouse ahead of the 2019-20 school year to join Thomas Bohrer's staff. Working primarily with the Second Varsity 8 as well as the program's recruiting efforts, he completed his seventh season back in Terrier Town in 2025-26, and third as the associate head coach following his promotion in October 2023.
Last season, Dillon helped guide the Terriers to a 12th-place finish in the Ten Eyck team points trophy at the 2026 IRA National Championship Regatta. There, BU's Third Varsity 8 finished ninth in the nation while the Varsity 8 (12th) and Second Varsity 8 (13th) posted top-15 results. During the spring slate, the Terriers swept No. 12 Navy to open the spring and also posted a Varsity 8 win over No. 13 Cornell. BU snagged two cup victories with the Lusins Cup over No. 17 Columbia and the Conlan Cup over No. 9 Syracuse, the latter marking BU's first win in the series since 2019. BU also posted photo finishes in the Varsity 8 against No. 9 Northeastern and No. 7 Dartmouth.
In the 2024-25 campaign, Dillon helped guide the Terrier 2V to its fourth consecutive appearance in the Petite Final, finishing 12th in the country.
Dillon helped the Terriers post their third-straight 10th-place team finish at the IRA National Championship Regatta in 2024. The Terrier Second Varsity 8 was 10th in the nation among its competition.
In the spring of 2023, Dillon helped the Terrier 2V8 finish eighth in the country at the IRA National Championship Regatta, placing second in the Petite Final. During the spring, BU's 2V8 posted wins against Wisconsin and Georgetown, while earning third in the Petite Final at the Eastern Sprints.
Dillon helped guide the Terriers to an eighth-place team finish at the 2019 IRA Regatta.
During the 2019-20 fall season, Dillon's second at BU, he helped coach the Terriers to four top-10 finishes among US colleges at the 55th Head of the Charles Regatta.
Dillon, who rowed for the Terriers from 2012-16, previously served as head coach of the Boston College men’s rowing team where he grew the program from a roster of 35 to over 50. During the 2019 season, BC's varsity crew finished second at the 2019 American Collegiate Rowing Association Club Rowing Championships.
A native of Port Republic, N.J., Dillon graduated from Boston University in 2016 with a BA in international relations.
