Mathis Jessen returns for his third season on head coach Tom Bohrer's staff. Jessen joined the Terriers' staff in Sept. 2013 as assistant coach.
Jessen is a 2012 graduate of the University of Washington where he was a member of the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 division I IRA National Championship teams and served as the team captain his senior year. He was also a member of the German National Rowing U19 and U23 Teams from 2004 to 2009 and won the straight four at the U23 World Championship in 2008.
Jessen joined the Terriers' staff after serving as the junior rowing coach for RowAmerica in Rye, N.Y. where he also served as a social media and marketing assistant. Prior to his work at RowAmerica, Jessen interned for Nike Inc. in Global Brand Marketing and also served as a communications assistant for the University of Washington Athletic Department. In 2011, Jessen worked for the National Football League's Seattle Seahawks as a player participation analyst and for the Major League Soccer's Seattle Storm as a public relations assistant.
In his role as assistant coach, Jessen works closely with coach Bohrer and associate head coach John Lindberg in the training of all team athletes. He assists in the team's recruiting efforts and day to day operations of the team, as well as coordinate team travel.
The Hamburg, Germany native received his B.A. degree in communications and geography from the University of Washington in 2012 and speaks four languages.
