Sam Shields was promoted to Associate Director, Facilities and Event Operations in August 2021.

In his role, Sam is responsible for internal operations, capital project management, event management and serves as a liaison to a variety of university constituents across campus.

Before assuming his current position, Sam was promoted to Assistant Facilities Manager at the Track and Tennis Center in July 2017, after joining Boston University in March 2017 as an Operations Assistant. In these roles, he coordinated staffing, scheduling, policy development and maintenance of BU athletic facilities while also supporting with project management, revenue generation and budgetary efforts.

Sam had previous stints working in athletic facilities and operations at Boston College, University of Southern California and Long Beach State University. In each of these positions, he played a key role in supporting the student athlete experience through facility enhancements, advancing operational efficiency and delivering championship-like game day experiences at the Division 1 level.

Sam is a 2013 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an option in Finance. He went on to receive his Master of Arts degree in Sport Management at the University of San Francisco in 2016.

A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sam and his wife Emma currently reside in North Andover, Massachusetts with their daughter, Meredith.
