The Flying Dutchmen opened up a 16-10 lead with 8:09 to play in the first half, before the Terriers cut the deficit to one at 16-15 with 6:14 to play in the first half. Dereck Franklin scored five of his nine points in the 5-0 run... Hofstra led 27-22 at halftime. Both teams struggled from the field, as B.U. shot 33.3 percent (7-of-21), and Hofstra shot 39.3 percent (9-of-23)... Last Meeting With Northeastern - January 4, 2000 B.U. 62, Northeastern 45 BOSTON, MA- Freshman guard Paul Seymour scored a game-high 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Boston University defeated Northeastern, 62-45... B.U. jumped out to an early 14-2 lead and never looked back in snapping a four-game losing streak... Seymour got the Terriers off on the right foot as he drained a 3-pointer at 19:50 to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead... Senior center Jean Avebe connected on a layup and senior forward Mike Costello hit two three-pointers and a jumper as the Terriers built a 12-point lead, 14-2, with 14:33 left in the first half... The lead grew to 15, 31-16, as freshman guard Matt Turner (West Haven, CT) hit the fifth Terrier three-pointer of the half with 1:15 to play... B.U. held Northeastern to just one field goal in the final four minutes of the first half and headed into the break with a 35-16 lead... Costello scored all of his 12 points and the Terriers shot 44 percent from the field (12-of-27) in the first half... The Huskies shot just 25 percent in the first half (7-of-28)... Costello Playing In His 104th Career Game Today Senior forward Mike Costello is playing in his 104th career basketball game today vs. Northeastern... Costello becames the 22nd Terrier to reach the 100 games played plateau at Hartford on Friday, January 21st... He will tie Glen Consor for 20th on the Terriers' all-time games played list... Consor, who played for the Terriers from 1976-80, played in104 games.
Costello Leading By Example Senior forward Mike Costello is second on the Terriers' all-time three-point field goals made list with 179... Heading into today's game with Northeastern, Costello needs 25 three-pointers to break Mark Daly's (92) record of 202...With 11:48 to go in the game at Drexel on Tuesday, January 4th, Costello connected on his 164th career three-point field goal to surpass Billy Beal's (99) total of 163 for second place... Costello finished the game with a then career-high 18 points... Avebe On The Mark Since going scoreless at California on Tuesday, December 28th, senior forward Jean Avebe has been shooting 56.6 percent (56-of-99) from the field in his last 11 outings. Against Hofstra last Sunday, Avebe led the Terriers in scoring for a team-high seventh time this season with 12 points... The 6-7 center recorded indentical 7-of-9 efforts from the field at Vermont on Sunday, January 23rd, at Hofstra on Sunday, January 2nd, and against Portland State on Wednesday, December 29th... Twice this season Seymour has made six three-point field goals in a game, the first time came on November 22nd, when Seymour scored all of his then career-high 18 points from three-point land in a 91-79 overtime loss at James Madison ... Kudlacz and Seymour Compared To Recent Terrier Freshmen Freshmen Paul Seymour and Jacob Kudlacz have emerged from a talented freshmen class this season... Seymour has already made and attempted the most three-point field goals by a freshman in B.U. history with 43 and 123, respectively... Tremain Bryd hit 38 during his freshmen season of 93-'94... Seymour is also averaging the most points per game by a freshmen since Raja Bell averaged 10.9 ppg back in 94-'95... In fact, Seymour's current 9.9 ppg average is the highest by a freshman in the last five years and fifth highest in the last 17 years... Like Costello, a majority of Seymour's points come from three-point territory... Of his 197 total points, 129 are from three-point land or 65.4 percent... Kudlacz is averaging 7.1 ppg and 4.5 rpg... Michalek Making The Most Of His Opportunity Sophomore walk-on Mark Michalek is making his fifth consecutive start for the Terriers today... On Friday, January 21st at Hartford, the 6-0 guard made his first collegiate start, handing out three assists in 31 minutes of action... At Vermont on January 23rd, Michalek played 41 of a possible 50 minutes in the Terriers' 86-85 double-overtime loss... In the loss, Michalek distributed a career-high 12 assists against three turnovers for a 4-to-1 assist to turnover ratio... His 12 assists were the most since Dave Stiff also had 12 versus Rider on November 25, 1994... Michalek scored a career-high six points on two three-point field goals in a 62-61 overtime loss to Drexel on January 28th... Michalek has played in 17 of the Terriers' 20 games this season, averaging 0.8 ppg and 1.3 apg in 15.0 mpg... He is 5-of-`5 from the field this season and 1-of-3 from the free throw line.

At Vermont, on January 23rd, the 6-8 forward recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and a career-best 13 rebounds... Kudlacz is sixth on the team in scoring, averaging 7.1 ppg and is third in field goal percentage, connecting on 44.2 precent of his attempts (50-of-113)... He has a team-high 14 blocked shots and is second in rebounding with 4.5 rpg... Kudlacz sat out the first three games of the season due to an ankle injury... On December 9th vs. Maine, Kudlacz recorded his first collegiate double-figure outing with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting in 16 minutes. In the December 7th win over Harvard, Kudlacz was 4-of-4 from the floor en route to his third straight eight-point outing... The 6-8 forward made his collegiate debut at Providence on November 30... In 23 minutes of action, he scored eight points on 4-of-7 shooting and collected two rebounds... At UMass, Kudlacz added eight points and a then career-high nine rebounds.
Meet The Newest Terrier Tim Kelley Tim Kelley, a former team manager, has walked-on to the team and will wear the number 50... The 6-0, 180-pound guard joinedthe team two weeks ago prior to games at Hartford and Vermont... Kelley played four minutes of the second overtime at Vermont last Sunday... Kelley, will provide the Terriers some added depth late in games if injuries or foul trouble arise.
Grochowalski Red-Shirted For 1999-2000 Season Boston University freshman forward Jason Grochowalski (Shrewsbury, PA/Worcester Academy) will miss the remainder of the 1999-2000 season due to a season-ending shoulder injury that will require surgery... The 6-6,190-pound forward initially dislocated his left shoulder in practice on October 30 and reaggravated the injury during the Providence game on November 30th..."It is unfortunate that Jason has had an injury-plagued first semester," said head coach Dennis Wolff... "Actually, we have had him for only about a week. He had to rehab the shoulder for most of the pre-season. Then, we had him for three practices before our road trip to Florida and James Madison. He played in the three games, practiced for the Providence game, and then got hurt against Providence..."We plan to red-shirt him this year," continued Wolff. Grochowalski had his shoulder operated on December 26th... Grochowalski appeared in the Terriers' first four games, averaging 2.0 ppg and 2.3 rpg. Grochowalski was also averaging 11.3 minutes per game.
Sadusky Joins Grochowalski As A Red-Shirt Freshman guard John Sadusky (Fairfax, VA/DeMatha Catholic) will miss the remainder of the 1999-2000 season due to chronic lower back pain... Sadusky was the second freshman to be red-shirted by head coach Dennis Wolff this season... Sadusky, a 6-0, 180-pound guard, has been plagued by lower back pain for most of the season... "It's (lower back pain) been an ongoing problem since the first week of practice with no sign of improvement," said Wolff. "The best thing for John now is to start to rehab."... Sadusky, a McDonald's All-American nominee last season, appeared in five games for the Terriers. He had six assists, three steals, and three rebounds in 63 minutes of action.
Turner Ruled Academically Ineligible For Second Semester Boston University freshman guard Matt Turner (West Haven, CT) has been ruled academically ineligible for the second semester, head coach Dennis Wolff announced Monday, January 10th... The Terriers (3-10 overall, 2-3 in America East), who started the season with its youngest squad in program history, have lost its third member of the Class of 2003... On November 30th, freshman forward Jason Grochowalski (Shrewsbury, MA) was red-shirted due to a separated shoulder that required surgery. Then, on December 23rd, freshman guard John Sadusky (Fairfax, VA) was also red-shirted due to chronic back pain... Turner, a 5-9 guard, appeared in 13 games, starting eight. He was the Terriers' third-leading scorer averaging 8.0 ppg and reached double-figures in six games... Turner's best effort of the season was in his collegiate debut against Northern Illinois University in the first round of the Doral/Florida International Tip-Off Classic. Turner scored a career-high 20 points and handed out a career-high six assists in the Terriers' 78-65 loss.
