Lizzi Named Assistant Women's Crew Coach
August 22, 2002 | Women's Rowing
Jessica Lizzi, who has served on the Northeastern University women's crew staff since 1999, has been named assistant women's crew coach at Boston University and joins Terrier head women's coach Holly Hatton's staff.
Lizzi takes over the position that was held last year by Andrea Saathoff. Saathoff will remain on Hatton's staff as she has taken over the post that was held by Gailyn Perrin, who has left Boston University to pursue other opportunities.
A 1997 graduate of Rutgers University, Lizzi began her coaching career at Northeastern in September 1997 when she was named an assistant coach. She remained there through the 1997-98 rowing season when she returned to her alma mater to work with the novices for one season.
Then, in September 1999, she returned to Northeastern where she worked with the JV Eight as well as coaching and developing the coxswains for all the Huskies' women boats.
That was a natural responsibility as she was an outstanding coxswain during her undergraduate career at Rutgers. A four-year member of the Scarlet Knights' crew, she was captain and Most Valuable Athlete during the 1996-97 season. In 1995 and 1997, she was in gold-medal winning boats at the IRA. Also, in 1997, she coxed the varsity eight boat that was in contention for an NCAA bid.
Lizzi, who received her Master's in Public Administration from Northeastern in 2002, also worked from September 1999 through June 2001 for Athletes in Service to America, an education-based Americorps program. The program is designed to promote education in the City of Boston, and during the two-year span, Lizzi taught kindergarten at Henningan Elementary School.
