PROVIDENCE, RI-The Terrier women's crews raced well as they finished second to highly regarded Brown but beat Texas in a three-boat regatta on the Seekonk River on Saturday, April 17th.
Rowing in great conditions, the women's varsity heavyweight covered the 2,000-meter course in 6:41.1, while Brown won the featured event in 6:33.8. Texas, under former Northeastern coach Carrie Graves, was third in 6:43.0.
That was the order of finish in the second varsity and first novice races, as well.
In the second varsity race, Brown rowed in 6:42.2, followed by the Terriers in 6:55.6 and Texas in 6:59.6. Finally, in the first novice, it was Brown in 6:51.1, while the Terriers were clocked in 6:59.0 and Texas was third in 7:06.5.
"It was a good regatta for all our boats," noted head coach Holly Hatton. "I was especially proud of our varsity heavyweight boat. In the first 1000 meters, we were down by open water to Texas. But, then in the second 1000, we figured it out and poured it on. We bumped up our rating and got into a better groove. The end result was that we overtook them and beat them by nearly two seconds."
The second varsity also rowed well as it showed improvement over last week (April 3rd) when it lost to Yale but beat Dartmouth.
After being on the road through the first four regattas of the spring season, the Terriers will finally row on the Charles River next Saturday morning, April 24th, when it meets Northeastern and Notre Dame.
