BOSTON - The Terrier men's cross country team defeated Northeastern and fell to Manhattan in its 2004 season opener at Franklin Park, on Friday, Sept. 10.
Anchored by junior Mike Fisher (Newton, MA), B.U. defeated Northeastern, 18-43, but dropped a 16-45 decision to Manhattan. Tyler Raymond raced to a first-place finish for the Jaspers, covering the five-mile course in 25:38. Manhattan had the top four finishers and six runners in the Top 10.
Fisher finished in fifth-place with a time of 26:51, while sophomore Dan Sieckiewicz (Westerly, RI) followed in eighth in a time of 27:03.
Junior Phil Putis (Chelmsford, MA) was the third Terrier to place in the Top 10, finishing tenth overall in a time of 27:10.
Sophomores Greg Sinnott (Center Moriches, NY) and Matt Griesbaach (Methuen, MA) crossed the finish line within one second of eachother, with Sinnott placing 13th in 27:20 and Griesbaach taking 14th in 27:21.
Senior Kiran Umapathy (Woodbridge, CT) placed fifth among the Terriers and 18th overall in a time of 28:00, while Nick Goodman (Watertown, MA) placed 19th overall in 28:13.
The Terriers next compete at the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, New York, on Friday, Sept. 24.
