Rowing Teams Finish Strong at Princeton Chase

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Boston University men???s and women???s rowing teams followed up strong showings last weekend in the Head of the Charles with solid performances at the Princeton 3-Mile Chase on Sunday (Oct. 30). The men???s varsity squad placed sixth out of 38 boats in the Heavyweight Eight, while also garnering second and sixth in the Heavyweight Fours. The women were led by a fifth-place finish in the Open Eights and a No. 4 ranking in the Open Fours.
The Princeton 3-Mile Chase is an invitational head-race hosted by the Princeton University crew coaching staff for varsity men and women collegiate crews. It was held at Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J., and covers a 2 ??-mile span.
The Terriers kicked the day off in the men???s Heavyweight Eight competition, where BU???s two boats finished sixth and 28th, with times of 13:36.89 and 14:31.12, respectively.
Next up was the Open Eights, where the women finished the course in 15:41.92, good for fifth place out of 43 boats.
The Terriers??? top placing of the day came in the 34-field Heavyweight Fours, in which the top BU boat was only bested by host Princeton to come in second with a time of 14:41.98. BU also was sixth (15:20.12), 16th (15:55.98) and 28th (16:31.74) in the event.
Finally, the women???s Open Fours closed out the day???s racing, as the Terriers came in fourth in 17:24.52 and 23rd in 18:09.12 out of 43.
The Small Boats event, an eclectic race of men's and women's singles, doubles and pairs, BU raced several boats with consistently strong results in each boat class.
The men???s rowing team returns to action at the Foot of the Charles on Nov. 19, while the freshmen compete at the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 5). On the women???s side, BU heads back to Princeton for the Belly of the Carnegie on Nov. 11-12.
