Women's Varsity Crew Seeded Sixth For Eastern Sprints
May 10, 2005 | Women's Rowing
The Terrier women's varsity crew has been seeded sixth for this Sunday's Eastern Sprints that will be rowed on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ and will row against top-seeded Princeton, seventh-seeded Navy, 12th-seeded Northeastern, and 13th-seeded Rutgers
These five crews will row at 9:10 a.m. with two advancing to the afternoon's Grand Finals. Two will qualify will for the Petite Finals, while one will row in the Third Level Finals.
"I am very pleased with how we have rowed this year," said Terrier head coach Holly Hatton. "We have a very young boat with no senior rowers. We have a freshman in the boat and a sophomore stroke.
"The question is how we will handle the challenge in our heat," the coach continued. "Princeton is the top-ranked crew in the country. We did row against Northeastern and Navy earlier in the year, and we did beat them both. However, Northeastern has had the last two weeks off from class to train for the Sprints, and Navy is coming off a strong performance against Columbia.
"I have confidence in our crew, but I will have my fingers crossed," concluded the coach.
The Terriers have three other boats entered in the Sprints-second varsity, a third varsity four, and a novice eight.
The second varsity is seeded seventh and will be entered in the 8:40 morning heat against second-seeded Yale, fifth-seeded Cornell, 11th-seeded Navy, and 15th-seeded George Washington.
The third varsity four is seventh and will row at 10:00 a.m. against top-seeded Brown, sixth-seeded Cornell, 12th-seeded Dartmouth, and 13th-seeded Columbia.
Finally, the novice eights are ranked eighth and will meet in their 8:10 a.m. race second-seeded Columbia, fifth-seeded Dartmouth, 11th-seeded Northeastern, and 14th-seeded Boston College.
