DURHAM, N.H. - The Boston University women's ice hockey team fell 3-2 to first-ranked New Hampshire in overtime, surrendering the game-winner with three seconds remaining in the extra period. Junior Laurel Koller and freshman Lauren Cherewyk each scored and the Terriers held a 2-1 advantage going into the third period, although the team was outshot 44-10 in the game.
Despite continuing its unbeaten streak against the Wildcats, the Terriers (3-4-2, 1-0-3 HE) showed marked improvement in this match-up on both sides of the ice. Junior Allyse Wilcox started in goal for Boston University and made 41 saves against UNH (14-2-0, 8-0-0 HE), while Koller led the team in shots with three, all coming in the first period.
Koller sparked the day's scoring with 8:22 remaining in the first period off assists from sophomore Jenn Arms and junior co-captain Gina Kearns, her team-leading ninth of the season.
Senior Sadie Wright-Ward struck back for the Wildcats, redirecting a shot from senior Nicold Goguen with 13:40 remaining in the second period.
Freshmen Jillian Kirchner and Lauren Cherewyk combined for a score late in the second period, as Kirchner's centering pass found Cherewyk open for the go-ahead goal with 1:51 left in the second period.
The Wildcat's game-tying goal came at 4:33 of the third period, with sophomore Micaela Long attacking the goal to recover a rebounded shot and slotting the puck past Wilcox.
After a rigorous four minutes, 57 seconds of overtime, Wildcat senior Jennifer Hitchcock scored the game winner, just three seconds from an overtime tie.
