CALGARY, Alta. - Junior Amanda Shaw has been named to Canada's National Women's Under-22 ice hockey team for the 2008 European Air Canada Cup, Jan. 2-6 in Ravensburg, Germany. It will be the second time that Shaw plays with the team, after competing against the USA's Women's Under-22 Select team in Lake Placid, N.Y., in August.
Canada has won the championship in each of the five years that the European Air Canada Cup has been played, beginning in 2003. The team has only lost once in 16 games.
Shaw will be joined by two other Hockey East players, New Hampshire freshmen Jenn Wakefield and Courtney Birchard.
The Canadian team returns 19 of the 22 players that won all three games against the USA Under-22 Select team in Lake Placid. It was the first time Canada had taken all three games since the teams began competition in 1999.
This season, Shaw leads the Terrier defense with four goals, adding in six assists for 10 points. She has appeared in 16 of 17 games for BU, which has a 6-9-2 record at the midway point of the season and carries a three-game winning streak into the break.
