During Friday night's men's ice hockey game at Agganis Arena, Boston University recognized the three Terrier teams that captured conference championships in spring 2008. The lacrosse, women's tennis and women's outdoor track and field teams each won America East championships last spring, helping BU earn the Commissioner's Cup for the third consecutive year as the best overall athletic department in the conference.
The lacrosse team won its fourth consecutive and seventh overall America East championship. They tied a school record with 18 wins and set the record for 15 consecutive victories en route to an appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals for just the second time ever, as Sarah Dalton and Lauren Morton were named All-Americans. Dalton was on hand to be honored, along with fellow senior captains Rachel Klein, Kelly Munroe and Steph Walker, assistant coaches Katie Linnertz and Anne Sheridan and head coach Liz Robertshaw.
The women's tennis team is the most successful program in conference history, now having won the America East championship for an amazing 15 consecutive years and 19 times in 20 years. The team advanced to its 10th straight NCAA tournament as Francine Whu was named the championship match's outstanding performer and later earned conference Player of the Year honors. Head coach Lesley Sheehan, assistant coach Dejan Stankovic and senior captains Danielle Abraham and Cori Lefkowith represented the team at Friday's ceremony.
The women's outdoor track and field team dominated the conference meet, outpacing the closest team by more than 70 points. All-American Tahari James was the meet's high scorer, while fellow All-American Marisa Ryan won the 5,000-meter. Andrea Walkonen finished first in the 10,000-meter. This was the first women's outdoor track and field title for BU in 15 years, giving the Terriers both the indoor and outdoor women's titles in the same year. James and fellow senior captain Erin Catarius were in attendance on Friday, along with director of track and field Robyne Johnson, who was honored with her fellow coaches as the America East women's indoor and outdoor track and field coaching staffs of the year.
