Terriers Run to Fourth-Place Finish at America East Championship

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. - The Boston University men's cross country team captured a fourth-place finish out of nine teams at the America East Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Oregon Ridge Park. Freshman Elliot Lehane and sophomore Ken Haltom turned in the best finishes for the Terriers, who posted a score of 120 points.
New Hampshire won its third consecutive conference championship with 42 points to beat out Stony Brook (64) and Binghamton (89). Finishing behind BU was host UMBC (123), Albany (154), Maine (158), Vermont (170) and Hartford (267). Stony Brook sophomore Tim Hodge won the race, crossing in 25:29.3 to lead the group of 76 runners.
The Terriers' scoring runners all crossed in a close pack. Lehane finished 20th with a 26:32.7 and Haltom was right behind him in 26:33.2 on the 8k course. Senior David Proctor was 23rd with a 26:35.7, junior David Polgar finished 26th among scorers in 26:47.8 and freshman Peter Gilmore finished the BU scoring with a 26:54.8 that placed him 30th among scorers.
Also finishing for the Terriers were sophomore James Weider (49th, 27:42.3), senior Tom McLean (27:48.4) and freshman Chris Mercurio (28:15.4).
BU is back in action on Nov. 15, competing in the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional at Van Cortlandt Park in New York.
