During the second intermission of the BU-Vermont men's ice hockey game on Saturday, Nov. 22, Boston University Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike Lynch presented John Grady (CAS '72) with the Thomas H. Fitzpatrick Memorial Award in an on-ice ceremony at Agganis Arena. The Thomas H. Fitzpatrick Memorial Award, named in honor of the 1927 BU graduate, is presented annually to an alumnus of Boston University for inspirational presence offered unselfishly to Terrier Athletics. John received the award while surrounded by his grandchildren.
"John has been a tremendous supporter of our athletics program and our University for a long time," said Lynch. "His service and dedication to BU are exemplary, and I cannot think of a more deserving recipient of this award. He is all BU, through and through, constantly pushing us to do better and challenging Terrier sports and the University to perform at a very high level. I am grateful for his leadership."
Grady currently serves as the Director of New Business Development at Athena Capital Partners. A member of the 1970-71 men's ice hockey team that won the national championship, the Beanpot and the ECAC regular-season titles, he is one of the founding fathers of modern-day women's ice hockey at BU, having served his alma mater as a former volunteer coach of the women's ice hockey club team. John is also past-Chairman of the Friends of Boston University Hockey and has been a loyal supporter of the University and a leading contributor to Agganis Arena. John's commitment to his alma mater is further evidenced through his leadership on the BU Athletic Director's Council, a close circle of advisors for Lynch and his administration.
In addition to his work at BU, John is a member of the Board of Overseers at Brigham & Women's Hospital, the Board of Directors at the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies and the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees at the Belmont Hill School.
