The No. 11/10 Boston University lacrosse team heads home to face Stony Brook at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday after building its winning streak to seven last week with victories at Harvard and Stanford.
The Terriers (10-2, 3-0 AE) earned a come-from-behind victory Sunday at Stanford, playing to a 14-11 final score. Though BU built a 4-0 lead in the game's opening minutes, the Cardinal fought back to score nine of the next 12 goals, giving Stanford a 9-7 edge in the second half. However, that was the closest the score would get, as the Terriers notched seven of the game's final nine goals to seize victory for BU.
Junior Sarah Dalton let all scorers with four goals, while senior co-captain Lauren Morton and sophomore Traci Landy added three goals each. Senior co-captain Molly Collins (2 g, 1 a) and sophomore Erica Baumgartner (1 g, 2 a) each tallied three points and junior Kelly Munroe scored as well. Sophomore Rachel Klein made 13 stops in goal.
Stony Brook (5-5, 0-3 AE) lost a 17-10 decision at home against No. 14 New Hampshire on Saturday. The Seawolves have dropped both of their last two contests after opening the season 5-3.
Senior Diana Caroleo leads Stony Brook with 26 goals, also chipping in 15 assists for 41 points. Junior Kaitlin Leggio paces the Seawolves in assists (19), points (43), ground balls (46), draw controls (55) and caused turnovers (15). Freshman Melissa Cook is third on the team with 21 goals and 26 points, notching nine of her goals on free-position opportunities. Freshman Jamie Carlson has started the majority of the team's games in goal, earning an 8-8 record with a .376 save percentage and a 13.99 goals against average. Sophomore Mickey Cahill has also started two games, going 1-1 with a .446 save percentage and a 13.87 goals against average.
BU is 6-1 all-time against Stony Brook, with all of those meetings coming in the last five seasons, including wins in the America East Tournament in 2006 and 2003. The Terriers lone loss to their conference rival came last season, as BU dropped a 16-13 decision at Stony Brook.
