NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Junior Eric Ashe finished first in the Ted Owen Invitational to lead the Boston University men's cross country team to a second-place finish on Saturday morning at Stanley Quarter Park. The Terriers tallied 40 points in the meet to finish behind only New Hampshire, who won the event with 28 points.
After BU, host Central Connecticut State finished third with 93 points, Bryant was fourth (135), Fairfield fifth (136), Siena sixth (161), New Haven seventh (177) and Hartford eighth (183).
Ashe won the race for the second season in the row, covering the five-mile course in 25:39, six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Senior David Proctor was close behind, finishing fourth in the field of 97 runners in 25:46. Freshman Peter Gilmore followed with a 25:54 time for a seventh-place finish in his second career race. Junior David Polgar was 14th in 26:56 and sophomore James Weider rounded out the scoring with a 27:14 time good for 20th place.
The Terriers' other finishers were sophomore Ken Haltom in 25th (27:22), freshman Chris Mercurio in 26th (27:31), freshman Colin Lee in 59th (28:56) and freshman Billy Whelan in 79th (30:18).
BU will be in action again on Saturday, October 11, racing at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston with the men's races beginning at 1:30 p.m.
