Terrier Pride, the development and alumni relations arm of BU Athletics, is pleased to announce the "Proud to Be a Terrier" campaign. The campaign's underpinning is that proud alumni give back to support current student-athletes. It features alumni, parents, and friends sharing their stories about why they donate. Through their stories, Terrier Pride invites alumni, parents, and friends to invest in the future of BU Athletics by joining the "Friends" of their favorite team.
"By using more creative approaches and stretching beyond the standard mail, call and email methods of fundraising," explained Mike Lynch, Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics, "we aim to create a fresh enthusiasm for giving and reach a wider range of potential donors."
In addition to the recent mailing, which encourages alumni, parents and friends to invest in BU's student-athletes, Terrier Pride plans to utilize Facebook, videos, interactive media, and surveys to incorporate donors' voices into the campaign. Donors can also expect an increased web presence with insider news, event invitations and feature stories.
This year Terrier Pride aims to raise $825,000 in annual fund support for student-athletes, which would represent nearly a 5% increase over the previous year. This support will augment teams' budgets funding additional opportunities for team travel, facility updates, state-of-the-art equipment, student services, and much more.
"Last year was one of the best years in the history of BU Athletics and our donors were an important part of that success," said Lynch. "Their support and generous donations provided resources for our talented staff and student-athletes to continue evolving BU's athletic programs and achieve new levels of success on and off the field."
Last year's donations enabled several exciting opportunities for student-athletes. The women's lacrosse team raised enough to fund a two week tour of Australia, during which they played international competition at the highest levels. Donations also helped the athletic department host a number of invaluable student service programs such as tutors, nutrition seminars, and financial planning classes.
